I just found one of my buff orpingtons dead. She was acting normal, but I did notice her tail feathers were discolored. The middle parts of them were brown. Can anyone tell me if there's a connection?

so sorry,,, I lost my EE Annie last week,,,, Were they discolored from poop?

I am sorry for your loss!! How old was she when she died? Her age may have been the cause and she may have died naturally

I have 6 other chickens, all one year old. One of my other orpingtons has the same feather discoloration but seems fine. I know sometimes chickens die from internal things going wrong. It's just sad.

A just one of my chickens die today too - she was 1 year old and I noticed she was acting ill the last few days. Always off by herself in the corner. No obvious sign of injury or drama..... so sad :( I wish there was a way to see what happened!

I wish I could know too. I knew when I got into raising chickens I would probably lose some. I also knew I wouldn't be able to run to a vet for every little thing. Yes, I would like to know how she died too.

I built my hen house and run last year. I was so happy they made it through the winter. And then bam, she dies with no warning. I'm just worried whatever it was is going to affect the rest of the girls. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm going to read this forum top to bottom so I can learn as much as I can.

I'm sorry too for your loss.
