I have a Barred Rock - she's almost two years old.. about a year ago now her feathers started going fluffy and kind of gross.. she's been losing them like crazy ever since. She currently has no tail feathers but she is the head chicken, no one messes with her. She eats more then any of my other girls, she's the first one out of the coop no matter the weather, she's LOUD.. and I love her for her scrappy behavior. I've tried everything to help with her feathers but nothing has worked. Recently she stopped laying and I was glad. I was hoping it would allow her feathers to come in and give her body some time to rest. But today she was on the nest and this was what was left when she got up... is it an egg?

I agree it looks like a "lash egg" or the signs of salpingitis, which is an internal infection of the egg duct.

It's not a good sign. It means serious infection. Birds generally do not recover. Her overall poor appearance has been a sign of something amiss for some time.

I'll give you a good article to read. Sorry for the news.
