What did my girl just lay with her egg??

My first chicken to lay laid an egg that looked like that, followed by a second one about an hour later. We were still finishing out the finisher feed since we hadn't expected them to start laying yet. We switched the feed to layer pellets and she has since laid good eggs.

I looked up lash eggs and everything I see is a solid formation of pus and infection. What my girl layed was like an empty soft shell. I read that can be due to stress, heat, over production and not enough calcium to form the egg, etc. is that right? I’m worried about infection but I don’t want to treat unnecessarily. Any suggestions??

I thought it might be lash....but you confirmed it was just an empty shell.
How old is this bird?
It could just be a glitch in the system.
There are many possibilities of how it happened.

Is it possible that one bird laid the softshell then another came along and laid an intact egg in same nest so that softie stuck to hardshell?
Same bird could have laid them both at same time tho too.

I would not panic about infection or treatment, just keep an eye on things.
It may never happen again.

Weird eggs like that aren't generally a sign for concern unless it happens repeatedly. Sometimes things don't go right in any living being, and forming an entire egg is complicated. Sometimes the timing doesn't go right.

I’m not certain which hen layed this. I’m not certain of the age of any of the hens I have. My flock was killed except for 1,something got in their coop one night. My neighbor had a surplus and gave me 9, and I got one hen and a rooster from another friend. They are a mixed bag!

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about your flock! Very nice of everyone to give you some of theirs, I love the farming community! Take care!
