What did you do in the garden today?

Last night was supposed to freeze so my dad was trying to do me a solid by covering my beds with blankets. In the process about half of my kale seedling stems got snapped, which is such a bummer. I was wondering if anyone had any clue how I can save them!

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!

well semi productive day. Tiller decided today was a better day to work. So i got the garden tilled. then the daughter (4) helped me put up to bean poles and planted some "magic" kentucky wonder beans. Kind of early but the weather is suppose to cooperate hopefully. if not i still have a bunch of seeds. I also put in t post so i can rig up a fence to keep the dogs out. so i'm going to get the girlfriend to pick me up some zip ties and use left over chicken wire to make a fence.

Try grafting. In a emergency just make a / angled cut on both pieces , put them together and put super glue on the outside to stick them together. I saw this on utube. They sell vegetable grafting clips but you have no time to waste. I have some clips ordered but they literally taking a slow boat from china. Been over 3 weeks.

I've always used plastic bags for air layering.. got any pics of the bottle method?

Just take off the cap and cut the bottom off. Scrape the stem and Fill with soil or potting mix. I used potting mix and soil with soil moist crystals and water. I like the crystals as they stay moist longer. Moisture control potting mix already has the crystals. Saw the bottle method on utube. The crystals were my idea. I tape the bottle neck to the stem.

very cool.. I'll have to try it when my lilacs get big enough...

and yup.. trying to grow lilacs here in Texas... so far they are doing good.. and thanks to Texas A&M there is a variety that is surviving down in Galveston at Moody Gardens... now if I can get it to thrive here I'll be a happy camper!

I ground layer small lilac bushes. Just bend a low branch to the ground and cover with dirt and or a rock. Next spring it should be ready to cut free from the original plant. No need to scrape any bark.

Lilac does not even need any help. But you can easily take shoots in put them in water ive never seen one not make roots
