What did you do in the garden today?

do you use tap water?
I guess I have a brown thumb. I have never had a lilac root in water.

and.. lilac is like manitoba maple. its a weed. or cedar. you can grow those 3 pretty much anywhere and like weeds

We added more peat humus to our front yard (it is like fertilizer)... other than that I'm just waiting for things to come in... I'm not weeding since I'm not really able to tell weeds from plants yet!

very cool.. I'll have to try it when my lilacs get big enough...

and yup.. trying to grow lilacs here in Texas... so far they are doing good.. and thanks to Texas A&M there is a variety that is surviving down in Galveston at Moody Gardens... now if I can get it to thrive here I'll be a happy camper!
I like this. I could still cover the bottle with a bag to keep the moisture in. I usually wrap it in aluminum foil as well to try and keep it cooler. Florida heat will steam them otherwise.
This is a great idea. I think I will try some grapes this way, and some hybrid blackberries...oh-oh! And blueberries. Yes! Thank you!

Well water has more nutrients maybe that is a factor

And.. the bottle idea is farrr ahead over tin foil or bags.. why?? The bottle is still recycclable after.. and no material was used like tin foil.. polluting for no reason. Use bottles people!

AH, but I use USED aluminum foil and plastic bags, person!

Not that I have room this year, but I'm thinking of trying potatoes next year. Which are good types for So. Ca.? I do love large baked potatoes and those lil red ones...

I picked up some seed potatoes a few weeks ago.. all they had was kennebec potatoes... so that's what I went with (for now anyway.. lol).. they have already broken ground in the keyhole garden so they must be happy lil buggers

last year I just cut up whatever I found was sprouting that we had in the bin.. they grew just fine even with the "sprout inhibitor" they spray on them

waiting for everything to grow is making me plant more n more, my garden will be very cramped. Today I added another portion, I do very little as I'm tilling manually. My birthday wish list is a tiller!!!! :) Planted carrots, mustard greens, zucchini, sunflower, white corn, and a little more broccoli.

lettuce, Peas & beans planted last month doing well so far. MD weather not same as Oklahoma, by this time last year was getting greens from my little plot there.

Hosspak: My favorite potato is the Adirondack Red. It has red skin, and pink flesh. I used to grow a potato called All Red, which I believe has now been replaced by the Adirondack R. Unfortunately, I don't have room this year, and can't find them locally. I tried an experiment by planting some fingerling potatoes last fall that had started to sprout in my refrigerator. Potatoes are not supposed to be planted in the fall... but I had them, they were sprouting, and I was planting garlic the same day. So, if they grow, fine... if not, they will just become one with the soil! Any potato that you grow is going to be far better than what you can buy in the store. There's absolutely no comparison!!!! To me, they are the most rewarding and fun vegetable you can grow. Absolutely no maintenance after they are planted... unless you have to deal with potato bugs. The best potatoes I've ever grown have been the ones that I didn't plant. They're the ones that miss getting harvested in the fall, and then sprout in unlikely places the following year. One year, I harvested a lot of huge potatoes from my corn patch. They seemed to thrive with that corn.
