What did you do in the garden today?

Did you plant your Kohlrabi inside, or in garden? I've never grown it before, but have a pack of seed to try.

I started mine inside from seeds. Never grown it before. I don't even know how to fix it! I just think it looks weird and wanted to plant something new. :)

We got another bed done yesterday! It's been filled & bagged compost mixed in. I still need to add the peat and a barrow full of chicken compost. We need to put up the trellising for the green beans and I can start planting. :) My butt was dragging. I'll be so glad when we get them all up. Sad thing is, DH does the really hard work. Sometimes I feel so useless.

One more bed to put up. It's my asparagus bed. Debating on if I want to use it for asparagus or not.

I have never in my life tasted Kohlrabi, that I know of. So... I really should grow some, b/c trying a veggie bought at the store just is not the same as home grown.

I always thought I hated butternut squash. That's all my BIL ever buys. And I've had it at his house. Might as well have been eating a cardboard box. So, 2 years ago, I decided to try growing it. Guess what? I LIKE butternut! As a matter of fact, it's made it's way onto my "must grow it often" list.

I have not been able to "wrap my head around" eggplant. Simply can't enjoy eating it. Flavor is odd, and the last time I had it, the skin was so tough, I couldn't even bite through it. So, this year I am going to grow egg plant, in a never ending quest to "learn to like it". But, you can't make me want to learn to like okra!

We finished the outdoor run for our chickens! Just need to get the bird netting over the top. I dumped 3 loads of old composting mulch and oak leaves in the run (it was about 4 feet tall) and our 4 girls had the pile flattened out in about 2 hours! Watching them dig through it for treats was so fun! And pretty rewarding after a weekend of long, hard, work.

We got another 2 beds set and filled in the garden, as well. I planted some herbs, marigolds and zinnia's in the concrete blocks surrounding the chicken run and got spinach, kale, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, onions, shallots and leeks in the beds. I'm crossing my fingers we don't see another freeze, or if we do that it's very light! We've got 6 more beds built that we need to set that will get the summer veggies around the 1st of May.

As far as I'm concerned eggplant is good for baba ganoush and otherwise don't care for it either.
