What did you do in the garden today?

Love the idea of cooking broccoli leaves. Like ways of using as much of a plant as possible

It taste the same too! I throw a lot of broccoli leaves and stems in soup, stews or a potato-mash. The same with cauliflower.
My roommates throw them away; they only eat the flower-part because they think (are taught/used too) that it is the only edible part. They know of my 'crazy broccoli/cauliflower eating-habits' and the sweethearts save the stems and leaves for me. Jay! Free food! And less food-waste!

Especially cauliflower leaves can be a nice addition to a dish with cauliflower. They give an extra clour to your dish, and the texture is totally different then the flower part which is a nice addition.
I like to make Aloo Gobi, an Indian dish with stuff like cauliflower, potato and egg. A really yellow and white dish. The green cauliflower leaves make a nice extra colour.

I don't know how it works in other countries, but apperently, over here, you can ask for the leaves of cauliflowers in the supermarket. People pull them off before putting the cauliflower in a bag. I have'nt tested this yet. But it might be a nice tip for other cheap-skates over here. :p

Uh, garden stuff.
I did nothing. It is raining over here. Tommorow it will be sunny again so tommorow is garden-day. Can't wait to see what the garden did today :)

It's funny, all my spreading weeds are more beneficial than not, except for the buttercup. Buttercup is an awful, horrible plant that deserves to die a fiery death. It's super toxic to livestock, but they eat it anyhow. It causes blisters in their mouth/throats and then they die. It also spreads like crazy because like other plants it spreads through rhizomes and a bit of root spawns a whole new plant.
Luckily it's really easy to out-compete, and if you dig it up you can rake over the spot and plant a thick stand of grass (or anything, really). If you keep on top of pulling it, it will die back because it can't out-compete grasses etc.
The worst vining weed we have is just ground ivy. That stuff will out-compete grass with ease.
Today is more general grounds maintenance. I have a scythe someone gave D that's ancient and rusty and I have been slowly restoring. I spent an hour or two yesterday sharpening it/cleaning rust off and I will do that same thing today. Then, once it's ready, we're gonna cut the back lawn weeds and grass with it. It cuts through plants that are taller and thicker than a lawnmower can handle, which is exciting.
I also have a broody hen which is exciting. She's been on her eggs a little over a week now and they are developing nicely! Knock on wood I have a whole swath of baby birdies in a couple weeks!

I have 5 broody :barniemy 4 Silky with 12 Marans eggs now my ameracauna that spent 4 months in Silky land is broody again cannot put here there now second room is 5 Black Copper Marans that are 2 months old, tractor has 4 BR and legbar growing up my other little cockerel is being added to :idunno

90s is the nom here from mid June to Beginning of September. Sometimes longer. But the winter temps are at least ( except for last year) are 30s and 40s during the day which that doesn’t start till mid January. Christmas usually in 40s or 50s so I guess that’s not bad. I HATE cold. We might get overnight frost here and there in December Heats not bad but very humid in va summer. Yuck

Had to search that one. 32 degrees apparently. Exactly the amount of degrees/fahrenheit the whole world is divided by if it is 'nice and summery' or 'too hot' heehee.
I let it depend on what I have to do. Since I don't have to work right now I find it 'nice and summery'. ;)

But then again. In this rainy climate 90 degrees fahrenheit will still mean it also will be wet and your garden grows like crazy. After 3 days of 90 degrees fahrenheit you are beginning to doubt if you have time-traveled but forgat since zuchinni's/tomatoes are suddenly everywhere, big an ripe, weed too, but your garden is a totally different garden!
