What did you do in the garden today?

Hi all!
I'm parked outside the restaurant where my son works to pick him up--what a pain. Kid needs to finish his hours so he can test for his license. Long story but we had a good four months where he'd lost his permit and didn't want to tell me so didn't want to drive. I go to work early so this is lame--basically his job is a part-time job for me too. Argh.
I'm getting a fair number of blackberries! And a

few of lots of things but not a lot of any one thing, so I took a pinterest-esque photo.

Eh, he learned that he needs to keep track of his @$/! license. He's 16, so not for a couple of years. Which sometimes sounds better than others.

Bracing for the heat wave. My cantaloups keep splitting before they are all the way ripe, but I've just been cutting around the bad parts. The split ones are sweeter than the ones that don't split. Lol!

I'm going to have to pull some interventions with my chickens during this. Big girls have been reluctant to share with the juvies, even their water. The girls have been trying to force the littles to sit and pant in the coop all day. Can't let that happen this week, but I have a plan.

Under the coop is a nice shady sand pit, and I can trap the big girls under there for a few minutes at a time, so the juvies can get their self care on. I think we'll make it through ok, because they have such heavy shade from the trees.

It's only going to be in the mid-80s here for several days, but we're meant to have thunderstorms for the next week. Methinks not much gardening will occur. It's nice to have a break from the sticky heat. Happy Thursday all!

Picked and ate my first pink tomato of the season . I have been getting some large cherry tomatoes but pinks taste so much better .

I watered today. Going up to 113* and 115* the beginning of next week which means everything will get a huge drink this weekend before that hits. Need to cut the grass too.

I was thinking about transplanting the succulents but not when temps are going up again.

Hello! Wow. Wasn’t getting alerts for a bit and then didn’t want to think about my sad garden. Between flood that excessive heat and humidity it’s done a toll. My tomatoes and peppers going nuts finally!!! Few lbs a day. Good enough for us!!! Just got first loofah a potatoes. Everything else dead. But a lot of people in the area lost garden all together so I feel lucky I got a decent harvest before it’s death. Crazy rain and storm forecasted next week. It could help or hurt. Guess we’ll find out.
