What did you do in the garden today?

Not a big gardening day for me, but I did get onto my hubs for running over the watermelon vines with the mower. Lol! Little does he know, if you destroy the growing tips, they may fork out. I just learned that myself, by accidently breaking a cucumber vine.

I did name my 2 pullets, though. Holly Goodhead and Mayday, figured I'd stick with the Bond theme.

Nah, not bad, penny--you know what you're doing from way back. I'm raising chickens for entertainment and eggs, so naming is part of the fun. I had one grandpa that farmed while I was very little, but I was much more into the calves and goats, and more terrified of the big ol' snapping turtle in the pond. The chickens didn't make my radar at all. I doubt he named them either.

My newbies spent the afternoon in the run with the biggies being able to get into the coop but not the run. Later I set them up with a panic door and let the bigs into the run to go into the coop tonight normally through the pop door. Coco, my newest big, is REALLY interested in them. Initially I was hoping it meant she wanted to be a mama and have a new flock since she's low man on the pecking order totem pole. After watching today, she may just want some new bird-butt to kick to raise herself in the pecking order. I am not enthused. That said, I have the mis-cut plywood and an old ratty screen serving as my big-hen exclusion device, and they're doing their job admirably. This is one of the most fun things of raising chickens. I get to repurpose every random thing I have in my shed. :)
I named two more chicklets today, and I'm venturing off my strip chix theme: my golden campine is Wolverine and my mystery hen is hereby going to be known as Big Red.

I picked eight 'maters, (atomic grape, Lauren's Littles, Lemon Boys), a couple of cukes (including my first lemon!), and a whopping half dozen jalapenos. I made one of those salads with cukes, onions and tomatoes with vinegar and a touch of sugar. Delicioso!

I was thrilled when I found my first two jalapenos ... We did name the Silky like did anyone one say chicken nuggets there we have mud, slime, grime and dirt ..
I do have to many and allot of them alike I have like 6 black birds one is a banty I would love to get rid of can I tell who it is NO way
