What did you do in the garden today?

I was so confused with the "crop rotation" thing mainly because I do companion planting. However, there was a little guide on the Old Farmers Almanac site that actually finally made sense to me. I feel like I have evolved a little more.

Oh, yeah I do both so it gets real complicated. Last year I had corn/peas together, so the next plant in that spot should be something unrelated to either for best results for example. I must admit - the new computer has been getting in the way of my planning sessions. It's a super strong computer and I can finally run some games I wasn't able to previously and it's super fun! So that's been a major time-suck. But as long as I get things finished by the end of february I should be fine

It's really great to read all of these interesting updates from ya'll. I can't wait for the end of snow and start of spring!

Thank you, they are terribly poisonous but they are outside the backyard where fur and feathered babies can't get them. We even have a fence across our yard in an area to keep the chickens away from any oleander parts that might drop off those growing in our neighbors yard for that reason.

Ours won't be allowed to grow above the top of that wall to make sure we don't have any leaves or flowers falling into the backyard.
Phew!
Had me worried. :bun

Oh no...I don’t grow anything in the nightshade family either :hmm
I do have Deadly Nightshade that grows in my fence line. I always keep pulling out the growth. Pretty much impossible to control totally since I wont be going into neighbors yard pulling up his weeds. In all these years,,,,, none of my pets, including chickens shown any interest in snacking on any of those plant parts. Including those delicious looking berries.
Tomato is in the nightshade family. The leaves are poisonous to chickens. My chickens have wandered thru/near my container grown tomatoes in the past. Never shown any interest in the greens, but would certainly eat the ripe fruit.

Very true...chickens usually leave bad stuff alone. In winter mine peck anything and everything that has some kind of green on it. So oleanders scare me. I grow tomatoes with no access to them (forgot they’re nightshade thanks) I grew jelly-bean tomatoes just for my chickens. Won’t do it again cause they took allot of time to pick lol. I’d rather toss them a big one.
