What did you do in the garden today?

I'm taking a break right now. I finished installing the chicken ladder roost, yay! I hauled a lot of the deep litter out to my new compost pile. So much dust. I'll be taking advantage of the rain that's forecasted to haul the rest out. I still have a couple of things to finish up outside and then I'll be done for the day. I still need to install poop boards, but that's not a priority right now with so much else to do. It shouldn't take long to put the brooder pen together inside the coop so these little darlings will be headed out to the big chicken house very soon. Apparently we will be getting a lot of rain this week so I may hold off for a few days before I put my tomato plants outside. I couldn't fit all the steps on the ladder in the picture. There is a total of 3 steps going up and 2 roosts at the top, all 3 feet long. It was a little challenging getting this installed as a couple of the girls were closely supervising.

Nice looking there sometimes it is tough to have gardens with chickens you seem to accomplished it there ... We have here also :wee

I hide my garden in bits and places. So far it seems to work, my chickens wander around a bit but don't really bother stuff once it sprouts, they do like dirt though. It helps the have a huge area to wander and a lot of those places are apparently much more appetizing.

I'm not letting mine free range unfortunately. My very nice neighbor across the street has uninvited guests that come back every year - a nesting pair of hawks. Last summer there were 2 adults teaching their 3 babies how to "forage" for food. So much fun.

OK. the blue hubbard, yellow, and boston squash are all in their little cells. I planted a whole flat (1/3 each). We all know one of a squash is enough for anyone, but I'm trying to hedge my success against ground squirrels.

I also put in 24 pickle cucumber plants in a different flat of cells that didn't germinate another see. Now watch, they'll both come up. LOL.

I walked the orchard. Everything is either leafing out, in bud, or has swelling buds. So that's good. Slowly, but surely.
