What did you do in the garden today?

I remember as a kid, not 150 years ago. Our tomatoes had flavor! They were ugly as sin, but GOOD! I try to stick with heirloom or seed saver/vault seeds.

We've tried many heirloom tomatoes. We've had moderate success. This time we are trying some hybrid types and heirloom types. Since it can get so wet by the raised beds, we were told that the heirlooms don't like wet feet and they tend to get larger root systems, so can get impacted by wet feet more than a hybrid (smaller root systems). ALL the tomatoes we planted this year are new to us, and hoping for better luck as compared to last year.

My heirlooms this year: Pruden's Pride, and Amish Rose, and Wheatley's Cherry (I think is an heirloom)

My hybrids this year: Black Cherry, Mountain Pride, Champion 2, Super Sonic, and Mexican Beefsteak

Lol no. We were just told newspaper is a great weed stopper so we just put it down. Going in blind and feeling the walls as we go :lau

FWIW, I bought some of the Standlee chopped straw from TSC. It is certified free of noxious weeds. haven't really had any problem with this straw sprouting anything last year or so far this year. But have had issues with straw from other sources. FWIW, Rural King has same stuff for about 20% less cost - but RK is much farther drive than TSC...so I bought it at TSC.

One of my beds with straw mulch. I put it down when it was a bit windy, but most stayed on the bed. The tomato cages help, but the melons on the far side of the bed don't have anything to keep the straw on top, and yet it has stayed just fine. Even better after it rains once.

Roofers here. Going insane. Found a pillar poop on one of the stripped tomatoes. Cant find IT though. One wet row of tomatoes is bleached out. Too wet down too deeply.. Planting beans as we speak. And corn.
Try a squirt bottle on Medium Spray...the don’t like to get wet and they will wiggle :thumbsup
