What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. The heat wave is over. Who knew it would get to 100F in New England. The chickens are fine however they kicked over their water jug sometime late last night. I gave them a little treat of turnip greens and fresh bread crumbs along with their fresh water. The garden seems to have weathered the heat. I picked another crook neck squash and a cucumber this morning. All of the tomato plants are loaded with green tomatoes. I'm a little concerned they will all ripen at the same time. Won't that be fun. My leeks are doing well. The ones I started indoor all look like small leeks rather than just green onions. They are close to an inch thick already. I'm looking forward to more cooler temps over the next few days along with some showers. Have a great day everyone.

I haven't posted here in a while. :hmm

The garden is doing mostly well. The tomatoes are not as happy as I had hoped but are setting fruit.
I got 3 zucchini and a yellow squash this morning off my 2 plants. I am pretty happy about that.
The cantaloupe has filled and over filled its 6x10 section and is loaded with blooms. I put a pumpkin to climb a big trellis and it seems quite happy with the heat we have had.
The beans are finally big enough to withstand the bunny onslaught and are full of blooms too.

I managed over the last week to be stung a total of 12 times by the now gone to wasp heaven European Paper Wasps.
Those buggers have a very bad attitude and very painful sting.

This is my mystery plant. It was supposed to be your average cuke. Its much more yellow irl.

I posted it in the old folks thread & it was thought maybe a lemon cuke, but none had been pollinated to tell, till this one.

Yes, looks like Lemon Cucumbers. We always plant these - very nice tasting - wash and throw into lunchbox for a nice crunchy add to lunch! The darker the outside gets, the thicker the skin. We had a few hidden ones last year that were dark gold (almost orange) in color when we found them amongst the vines. Not bitter, just tough skin. So pick when a light yellow to a nice lemon yellow color.

We have three lemon cucumber vines and they are very vigorous, but not producing much that I can see as of yet - lots of blooms though.

@Wee Farmer Sarah I have tons of green tomatoes too & I AM hoping they all ripen at the same time so I can can them! I planted some roma type tomatoes for the first time this year & there are so many tomatoes on the vines!
I planted 3 Roma tomato plants this year because I heard that they are better for canning. Mine aren't doing well at all! :th I already pulled out one plant because it died and a second one has a few scraggly tomatoes on it but otherwise looks pretty dead. The third plant is half growing. The half that is growing looks nice and healthy but I don't see any blooms or tomatoes on it. The cherry tomatoes and other tomato varieties are planted in the same are and they are doing really well, so I don't know what the problem is.:idunno

I'm not a DOCTOR, and I don't play one on TV,,,, but I would say "that is a DANGEROUS SITUATION"
Hope you are feeling well:hugs

We no longer do canning, but when we did,,,,,,, we used this juicer for tomatoes. Still have the machine. Nobody around us, does tomato canning anymore:hit

How do all others here process your tomatoes? As sauce, or as diced, whole, or other fashion:caf
