What did you do in the garden today?

My yard around the house is currently three to four foot tall grass and my mint grows within that, I don't have a lot of issues with it spreading too much... lol...

Even if it did it wouldn't bother me if it took over all three acres of yard area near the house, I love the smell of it... I am going to try and get some patches going in my drainage areas in my hay field where they drain into the ponds, it would be cool to get some more going. I had about 28 to 30 acres of it growing wild on my last farm from getting it started in the drainage areas and ravines. I had mint, peppermint, horse mint and catnip going there. I would love to get the same going here.

I would like to give you something to think about Please
morning glory, mint, scotchbroom, tansy, are all invasive and can kill cattle tansy but intelligent people think they are pretty the control of them is unchecked and near impossible

Went out to check the garden and pick the 2-3 zucchini I knew were getting big, to dehydrate them. Well!

After 3 biggish zucchini diced and in the dehydrator, I cut 4 more and made fermented zucchini pickles. We had more Zzzs for dinner.

And. I knew I had one broccoli head big enough to pick. I swear it doubled overnight! Broccoli with zucchini for dinner. And some dehydrating now.

I realized I had been ignoring the peas for, maybe, 2 days. Wow! Chickens and I had peas. DH won’t eat them so I eat them right in the garden.

I will have to cut another broccoli head tomorrow. And I won’t be surprised if more Zzzs appear - you know how they do. Must make kale chips - the little bitty worms are finding my kale, though not the brassicas (yet). And the dozen bitty cucumbers are eager to be pickled!

Baby green beans are appearing on the bush!

If that weren’t exhausting enough, I spent over an hour picking Japanese beetles off the roses, cosmos, zinnias, and wild geranium and feeding them to the chickens. This was fun! DH is a little upset that I am retired and he is working. The beetle thing really got to him.

Picked a snack for this evening... Harvested some of the young radish seed pods after watering the garden tonight..

full

These radish seed pods are quite prolific, each plant produces 150 to 250 pods or so. I just harvest them here and there for salads and snacks.

Harvesting 50% to 70% of the early pods also allows the smaller number of remaining pods to produce bigger better seed. I love radishes, first you get to harvest 95% of the radishes and I eat the radishes and use the greens like spinach. Then the rest of the plants go to seed and produce prodigious amounts of seed pods. Then seed pods that don't get eaten can be harvested to grow more radishes or can be sprouted like you would bean sprouts.

An incredibly useful plant that will grow just about anywhere in any conditions and grows in a short enough time period that one can grow two or three rounds of them a summer even with our short growing season.
