What did you do in the garden today?

Sadly everyone in my family loves radishes... we can pretty easily eat through two or three pounds of them a day here... As many as I grow it still doesn't put a dent in what we would "like" to eat... I am going to have to do another year where I go nuts with them and grow 15 or 20 thousand plants again.. Man that was an awesome year, I was harvesting a good size box of radishes a day, but between the seven kids, myself and the wife we were still eating all that we were producing... Managed to get a gunny sack of seed for replanting though. In fact I just finished off the last of that seed last year.

Well, call me a bigger dork. I’m excited by my cauliflower, which seems like a white miracle in a garden full of dirt.

And I’ve never grown watermelon, and I’m excited by yours!

I love cauliflower! But everyone I know around here that's tried it (& broccoli) has had a hard time with it so I haven't bothered. Your's is going good? Take a pic!

Good morning gardeners. Catching up on the posts since yesterday I realized why I enjoy this thread so much: we all share that sense of wonder and excitement when our plants start growing, then produce a flower that turns into a vegetable. It's so exciting and satisfying to go into the garden with an empty basket and come out with freshly harvested food. Knowing that all your hard work has paid off. I think it's great that @trumpeting_angel can grow a beautiful cauliflower or broccoli for that matter. As for radishes, I love them too. The leaves are quite tasty but my rooster is especially fond of them so he gets most of them. I picked the rest of the turnips this morning. I got a few small turnips but mostly just greens. I picked one 1/2 pound zucchini and 2 cucumbers. Finally I have a tiny butternut squash. Yay! No sign of pole beans blooming but I did see a couple of tiny bell peppers. Everything is a bit sluggish this year but it's still growing. Have a great day everyone.

@Wee Farmer Sarah @Sueby

There’s also the astonishment when you check a plant on Sunday, spotting baby vegetables, and Monday morning there are plenty ready to pick!

DH continues to express amazement when I serve fresh-picked vegetables. He begrudgingly ate kale salad, but broccoli is his favorite so when we had garlicky stir-fried zukes and broccoli last night, he was also astonished. “I can’t believe you grew this out in the yard!” Turns out he has never eaten straight from a home garden before. He kept telling me that the deer would eat everything and it wouldn’t be worth the work. His family’s single attempt was asparagus that ended up that way. (He does have something of Eeyore about him.)

We moved in together last year, but too late to start a vegetable garden. I put my June energy into planting perennials (oh, and tomatoes and basil) but this is the first big vegetable garden for us. And apparently, for him!

Cauliflower hides deep inside furled leaves.
