What did you do in the garden today?

My seed, tree and supply orders are in... an amalgamation of Fedco, Pinetree and Johnny's products. Thankfully the misses has given me the corner in the basement that used to be her yarn storage, ball-winding, etc. area and let me turn it into my own seed starting annex. Or as I call it my "garden office." I'm eagerly anticipating the first sprouts and dreading the moment 3 months from now when it occurs to me that I've tried to grow too much, but what can you do? All I think when I read the catalog is how much fresh food we'll have and I tend to forget the amount of weeding and other work involved.

I have tried every way. I have counted out the seed and added 5% for the duds and then I do not have enough, I have planted everything and had bad germination, I have had it perfectly counted out and then realize That even though I only planted ten cabbage seed from each packet,,, I had ten varieties and room for three.
I think the entire ''Oh no! What have I done?" is so we can infect someone else with garden fever by passing along seedlings to them.

Glad to know I'm in good company. Two years ago I started 27 winter squash plants ... you know, the long vining sprawling things ... yeah, who has room for 27 of those???

That same year I started four 72 count trays of tomatoes as well ... but I ended up selling over half of those so that was okay. I still didn't have room for everything that was left though.

This year I've got to quit circling things in the catalogs and actually get my orders placed. Artichokes and leeks need started.

Oh my goodness 27 squash vines. The first year I planted Butternut Squash I had two starts and by fall that had overtake 1/4 of the garden. I can imagine if I had planted 27 of them they would have made into the house!

@lazy gardener My wife tells me the same thing about the intervention... I told her I could quit seeds anytime I wanted, but it's not a problem I swear!

CuteChick53: No... enlighten us.

Matt, I told my DIL the same thing. Perhaps there needs to be a support group for family members who think their loved ones have a seed addiction. I really don't have an addiction... just because I found a bag of lentils in my cupboard that had a "best by" date of 2009, and instead of throwing them out... I sprouted them. Just to see if they were really past their prime, you understand. That's not an addiction. The chickies just enjoyed half of them, and I'll make a stir fry of the rest for lunch to go on a potato. Still more glorious smooth, beautiful brown green, flat and round at the same time, feels so good to roll them between your fingers, and sift them through your hands, lentils left in that bag for my sprouting pleasure. And who doesn't delight in reaching into a jacket pocket and finding a small handful of bean and nasturtium seeds left behind from fall harvest? Just as much fun as finding a lost $5 bill! No, I don't have a problem at all. Not me!!!
