Put all the tomatoes on the counter through the squisher pureer and now there's another 6qts of puree in the refrigerator. That's another batch of soup or spaghetti sauce.

34 degrees!? Oh my! We were at a humid 92 again today. I'm ready for a LITTLE cool. NOT cold, not even crisp. Just cooler.

Soybean and corn (for silage) harvest has started, which means the biting pirate bugs are out. I can't STAND THEM!

Good morning gardeners. It only got to the low 40's last night. Yay! Still a bit nippy, however the weather forecasters are saying we will get to the 70's today. I've been "hosting" a large grasshopper since Monday. With the cool temps I couldn't just toss him / her out so it hung out in my kitchen all week. I gave it a good breakfast of cilantro bits that were bound for the compost and sent him on his way this morning. I guess you really do get weird when you're old and live alone. LOL! I couldn't come up with a proper name for it so I sent them packing. My peppers seem to have survived yesterday's chill and I even picked a few more green beans this morning. I made the green tomato salsa verde yesterday and it looks just like the stuff you buy in the store. The initial tasting was good, not a whole lot of heat. I'm looking forward to picking up some apples from the local orchard this weekend and adding to my food store in the basement. Thank you all for the kind remarks about my paint job. I feel like I got a really good deal on this house, however with brown walls, wood floors and paneling around the living room fireplace there was just too much brown. I think the brighter colors lightens the overall mood of the house. Your wee ones are so cute @penny1960. Have a great day everyone and keep on canning!

Morning . Rain overnight and early morning . Clearing off now . Picked tomatoes yesterday and processing today .

3 quarts and a pint of tomato juice plus 5 half pints of paste . Yield of paste strained out of juice increased as I doubled the cider bag .

Big garden news: 80 yards of topsoil delivered to our yard! That is 4 big truckloads!! WET year combined with settled earth and drain pipe under the road to go between my yard and neighbors to the farm field has meant that lots of rain equals short lived shallow lake in garden and back area. Quite a drag to look at that, so we decided to raise the earth, and create a low berm to make the water flow behave and stay in the channel it is supposed to. The soil delivered looks good. We removed all raised beds (5 beds that are 16x4’ each and two smaller beds), and will have outdoor “fun” next week trying to maneuver a Bobcat around with dirt. After that is done, we will replace the beds and buy even more dirt of even better quality to fill them. The previous beds had really terrible dirt and were quite depleted despite high levels of amending and fertilizing. So, will need to try to source some manure if possible, as that would be a good addition to overwinter in the beds.

Good afternoon gardeners

The weather is finally cooling off and I've been able to get outside and do a few things.

The artichoke is leafing out and the Mexican heather is recovering from the chickens visit. Rosemary is doing beautifully, but I lost 2 small oleanders. 110+ for days on end sure didn't help.

Did some general straightening up, cut suckers off the mesquite tree and mulched it, then watered everything.

Planning to put in some cool season crops late next month. Scarlet Nantes carrots for sure, maybe some lettuce and sugar snap peas, not sure what all I have in seed packets right now. It'll be a large bed of carrots so I can let some go to seed though.

I brought home some cuttings from a Natal Plum my mom has at her new place and a pot full of aloe. Not sure yet what I'm doing with those.

It was sure nice to get outside! Hope you've all been well.
