What did you do in the garden today?

Good one lazy Gardner! Nayeli, why is it free poop is so exciting? I can't wait for spring there is age steer manure, lama poop, aged sheep manure and all natural bark mulch just waiting to thaw so I can shovel it into my truck... Come on spring!!!!

When we go out rubber necking, hubby and I may be in the same car, but, I swear we're not taking the same trip together. He sees old vintage cars, and architecture. I see piles of poop, piles of mulch, and the occasional flock of chickens, or a little coop that indicates that there is a flock in that yard!

Dude I am going to buy 3-4 tons of top soil and get some mulch worked in for raised beds. I already have a pile of old coop bedding I have been piling on a pile for over a year for this.

I went on Ison's nursery and ordered a bunch of berry plants and got some dwarf cherry's coming getting ready for spring.
and I have a bunch of veggie seeds to decide on what to plant this year.

was doing a bit of tidying up in the garden.. looks like the garden thinks spring is here...spinach starting to regrow.. broccoli is forming..the brussel sprouts are leafing bit more...even the blueberrys are starting to bud!! I cant wait till spring!!

Wow, all that happening just over in Whidbey island, I was expecting your location to say "Texas" after that description. Not too far away in N. Idaho and snow is covering most of the landscape. There are some bare patches, that are starting to grow, so that gets the 'ole spring fever going.

The chickens get so excited when they see something green.

I know I keep waiting for it to give us the usual dusting of snow but so far nada this year...I just know if I actually plant anything cold tolerant the weather will turn froozen n we will get the snow lol...... course if I dont it will be perfect lol...but I started these raised beds with a layer of composting material and then lasagna'ed my layers on that .. so between the raised bed and the composting under neath my beds are staying fair warm soil wise...my garlics sprouting up also.. I took a trip down to the community garden did some digging round over there with the collars and other brassica's... I might just chance some spare seeds to plant at the community garden see if they take off cant hurt .......oh and the chervil I transplanted out is starting to wake up in the garden bed also

I am going to try to make my beds between 6-8". I told DH I ordered the plants yesterday and he had told me he would get the topsoil here for me. The company charges by the load so what ever size truck or trailer you bring you only pay like 35.00 for the load. That is a lot cheaper than buying bags!
But on the other hand shoveling all that soil around is not going to be easy for us old folks either. lol
