What did you do in the garden today?

Aloha kakahiaka, mele kalikimaka & hau'oli makahiki hou gardeners!

Took DH to town for emergency eye doc appointment yesterday (all is well!). We hit traffic going in and coming out due to a pretty big- for here, we have 1 lane hwy- traffic accident. Must have been 7 cars and one trailer with serious injuries. Reminded me to be grateful for our health and happiness. Feel so bad for the folks who just had their lives and holidays altered, messed up to ruined in one way or another. I will be happy to stay off of the roads as much as possible. Be safe all.

We swung by to check out the paint job on my truck on our way into town. It really is prettier in person BUT the guy did not paint the inside of the bed (???!!!)... says he will do it for another $500. That was the obvious "lack of communication" that we had. I'm going to hate to see all the other lazy, shotty stuff he pulled. Disappointed because he is my DH's co worker. I called and discussed but he is a loud and proud guy, aka bully, I walk more quietly... though, I do carry a stick with rusty nails... but, that is not how I want to think or feel about this experience, my truck happiness or the holiday season. So, to get it out of there asap is the plan, pay him FAIRLY and deal with finishing "the complete paint job with color change" accordingly. The good news is that the color for that year and body style is absolutely stunning. I did a great job picking the color, I'm patting myself on the back because it took some convincing DH. Photos do not due justice to how pretty it is. I bet I will have lots of people complimenting me on it and asking me who painted it.... hmmm. Karma is honest.

I woke up early to a nice Christmas eve conversation with my daughter this morning and a light rain, my favorite. She and her family just relocated to Az and all is good.
DH has a solution to his eye problem and it is not serious, though his over all condition has been pretty bad for a few years. I'm planning on coasting 2019 out the door with love and looking forward to 2020, DH's retirement is on Jan 10th so lots of adventures to be had together.

Looking ahead, for New Years we will be taking the animals up to Koke'e cabin while the neighborhood goes nuts with fireworks. The heavy Chinese influence on the islands makes for very out of control New Years here. It's a shame and I hope for the day when they ban small fireworks altogether. It usually looks and sounds like a war zone and is sad to see such a beautiful island littered and disrespected by a few. But till then I am happy to go up the mountain where it is as quiet as a mouse and the air is clean.

Photos for today- I may have share this before. Kahili ginger, a sea of Kahili ginger from up Koke'e.View attachment 1987196 View attachment 1987197 View attachment 1987200 Happy Christmas eve all!!! Stay well and safe!!!!!! Aloha, L.
Thanks for sharing the gorgeous ginger pictures. Looking forward to seeing your truck paint job done too!! Merry Christmas!

The ornaments have been wrapped and stored away. The Christmas tree is in it's storage shroud and tucked away into its corner of the basement.

Spaghetti sauce has been simmering on the stove for 6 hours and counting.

The neighbor children brought me another pointsetta to kill.

I put on my 150 year old horse sleigh bells last night (it's a 7.5 foot long strand of bronze crotal bells) and snuck around to neighboring country houses and hid in the woods, so parents could bring their kids out at bedtime to hear santa's sleigh coming across the open sky.

I roused up a whole pack of pissed off coyotes in the process and sent them yipping and howling across the slough. LOL.

Made the kids night though. I'm getting to old to play a herd of rampaging reindeer.

@WthrLady That is an awesome tradition that you have going with the sleigh bells! I bet the kid's faces light up with wonder to hear the sleigh bells of Santa's reindeer!

I got a bee keeper's kit for Christmas! I'm really excited, but we have to take it back. It looks like it is missing a few things. I hope they have one that I can exchange it for!

Good morning gardeners.

@WthrLady I had tears in my eyes reading your post to Igor last night. What an awesome thing to do for the kids :love

Not much happening in my garden other than rain and things are growing. Daytime highs are in the upper 50s/low 60s. Chilly for me

My son and his family gave me this cute mug for Yule, I'm sure coffee will help keep me warm. Have a great day everyone!

So awesome!!! Good for you!! Never too old to be that lady who hides in the bushes for small children!! (Somebody call the police!!!) Must be fun to play :D ;)

Christmas day we had wild weather that knocked out our electricity. I woke at 1:30 am because of the fuse blowing on the pole that feeds our neighborhood. So, I lit a few nice smelling candles and started reading a really good book by its light, while enjoying the drama of the storm. The electric company was so busy it took them 12 hours to get to us and our fairly quick fix. We got 20" of rain and many trees downed but I love that we got the needed rain.

Kids are all happy with their gifts. Yippee. Hubby loved his :D and I love mine- a huge set of screwdrivers/picks/awls and a DeWalt 173 pc socket/wrench/combo set that I picked out, and that I got to bust out yesterday to fix my jig saw that DH touched . I told him he is going to be in big trouble if I catch his big mitts on my big and organized set of tools w/o permission or returning... I give him three weeks.

No gardening today. I did pick 4 more big beautiful papaya's yesterday and gave a few away along with eggs to neighbors. Only the Christmas spirit could get me to unselfishly part with those big and delicious beauties. Also, nabbed a few starfruit and the rest of the banana's for the horses Christmas breakfast and dinner.
The cooler weather is our real holiday gift and blessing. I hope we all enjoy!
