What did you do in the garden today?

Drier weather yesterday and for the next few days. Midwest cloud today.

Gardening...I’m thinking maybe I need some strawberry plants in one raised bed. But, anything else I should think of putting in with the strawberries?

I’m also thinking of making a barn quilt -painted, of course. But, what “material” to use? Metal? Wood? Outdoor paint, of course. Also need to decide if I’ll do only 1 quilt square so it’s larger/more easily seen. If so, the “Ohio Star” block will be a considered option, of course.

still sick, but actually had energy yesterday, so that’s a good sign, I think!

Good morning gardeners. Good grief @WthrLady I don't envy your weather at all. Too many changes too close together for my liking. Today it's getting back to January weather almost. It did get down to mid 20's overnight but it has bounced back up to 32F now. This coming weekend we might get some snow and the temps are going way down. I did get a little bit of outside work done yesterday. I took the Christmas decorations down, fed the compost tumbler and gave it a few spins. Then pinned down the plastic shower curtains around the chicken run. The crazy winds blew them around quite a bit. I was able to let the chickens out again for about an hour. Hopefully we won't get anymore snow for a while so they can get out more. I also took advantage of the 65F temps yesterday and cleaned my pellet stove really well and opened windows around the house to let in some fresh air. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of herbs that appear to be overwintering quite well in my little herb gardens. The thyme, sage and oregano are looking really good. I believe my lavender is going to survive the winter as is, surprisingly my parsley. The chives aren't visible and did not fare too well last summer either so I suspect they're not loving the acidic soil. My rosemary plants are loving the sunroom. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of your gardens and your freshly painted truck @TropicalBabies. Good luck with the roofers @Farmdog267. Good luck on your first day of work @karenerwin. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners :)

Overnight temps have been in the mid 30s with daytime highs in the mid 60s. 70 is on the horizon later this week. Hopefully that means I can paint the coops next weekend.

I bought a piece of sod and put it down in a bare area in the dog yard, I'll be feeding the whole thing next weekend. The garden is growing and I'm checking daily for artichoke flowers. Some of the carrot tops are almost a foot high already, I'm waiting a couple more weeks to pull one and see how big they are.

I'm in the middle of a major home purge. A few carloads went to Goodwill, and there's a nice pile growing for bulk trash. I should get the house pretty much finished this week, then we'll tackle the garage.

I'll be moving the Christmas cacti and a couple of other plants outside to the covered garden this afternoon. I have a few plants inside still, some ferns and pothos, that I moved to the front room. They get a lot of natural light in there, and once the outside trees are a little bigger the afternoon sun won't be an issue at this time of year.

I also bought this pretty little fern. It's for low light conditions so I put a plant light in the lamp for it. This is in the corner of my living room

Have a great day everyone!

Have you tried this method of preserving your eggs for later use?

The first day at work was fine. It was sitting all day and listening to presentations about safety & policies and things like that. The surprise is that I have to be back at work at 4 AM! My paperwork had said 9 to 4:30 for 3 days and then switch to the early morning hours. Oh well, I knew it was coming eventually. It just arrived sooner than I thought! :lau
Fortunately, I left an hour early today. I had to try 3 different routes before I could fine one that wasn't closed due to flooded roads. I mad it there 2 minutes before I had to be there. Google Maps let me down, they didn't have any of the flooded road closures in there system. :he
I'm headed to bed really early tonight!
