What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning all!
Diggin' the soil PH conversation. Now I want to get my soil tested just because @Acre4Me made it sound so cool ;) :D
Are you home now @BReeder! ? Hope you had a good, safe, warm and productive trip.

It is 8:am & 70 degrees, today should stay in the low 80's with partly cloudy skies as the day progresses. Great deck working weather so that is my plan.
Batman got me up early this morning with a cat fight, a new stray has moved into the area :barnieprobably because of the 40+ baby chicks floating around. Pretty soon I will be relocating some to pasture. No nights out for Bat for a bit till I can scare the big mean kitty away.

Last eve I saw THE stray dog about a 1/2 mile away from the trap walking parallel to the road. Debating on moving the trap.

I hope to pick up a Xlarge used dog cage from craigslist tomorrow eve and DH from the airport. No correlation. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 4 days solo.

3 day countdown for Jazzie's potential chick hatching event!!! SOOOO excited :D :D :D !!!!

I need to pick oranges and avos today. Fruit bowl is empty. :(
Tomatoes kicked back in gear and we have dozens of tomatoes forming now!

Nope. I don't mange it back until tomorrow night, Friday morning technically since it will be 12:05 AM when my flight lands in Chicago and then I should walk into the door around 2:00 AM.

Seed starting mats... use them or not?

I never have, but I am thinking of trying them this year since I am starting a lot of things indoors. I find a two pack on Amazon of 10"x20" mats for $20 I think. In the past I succeeded growing talents indoors without them, but the roots were rarely filling the skill in the plant cell. I am hoping these heat will encourage roots to grow all the way to the edges of the cells for larger, healthier root systems and so they hold the soil together better when transplanting.

I think it depends on what you are starting. Some plants won't germinate if it's not really warm. Others are OK with lower temps. I thought about using them, but I'm using my sunroom for my starts and it's about 68F in there. When I was looking into it myself, I found that the seedlings like to have a slight breeze on them as well. I keep the ceiling fan on in that room to blow the warm air around. I would like to see the results if you do get them.

Well, I ordered them. We'll see what happens.
Here's the list of the plants I'm starting indoors from seed:
- leeks
- sweet peppers
- hot peppers
- tomatoes
- cauliflower
- cabbage
- eggplant
- cucumber

I have 4 to get things going and then wean the seedlings off to a normal temperature. Many seeds want 60-70 degree soil to get going.
