What did you do in the garden today?

6 am today, I was at Walmart for TP, when they opened. They had some, limit 1 per customer. Had to get on hands and knees to reach the last 2 cans of petite diced tomatoes for making some stuffed peppers. That aisle was pretty low on supplies. But, got most everything else I needed (not too much that I needed). Went to the Grocery store nearby for a couple of items, but their supply truck had been cancelled! No new supplies, but they should get another tonight, so maybe they will get some things they are completely out of (like all paper products, including TP - which they have been out of for days).

Weather this week will be icky - pretty much rain and more rain. It is misting/sprinkling this morning, but should clear up for the afternoon, then tomorrow and the next day, and the next, and the next will be rain and lots of it. :tongue Rain is needed, of course, but I prefer it in smaller doses.

Seedlings are emerging in their starter cells, so that is good.

Good morning gardeners. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY! Hope you all are staying happy and healthy. Thank you @WthrLady for reminding us all that this could be a lot worse. We have electricity and our communication systems to help us through this "adventure." I really over did it yesterday. I did my exercise session first thing in the morning, ordered the garden soil which arrived 2 hours later. I had to shovel some to clear a path for my little car to be able to drive past it in the driveway (the dirt is heavy and wet). I made some bread (Irish Brown Bread). Then it was time to let the chickens out to play. After that I made fettucine and tagliatelle noodles, "ground" frozen turkey meat to make meatballs for pasta dinner. That's a lot of standing for me. However, I slept very well last night. As suspected I heard from my friend with the fruit tree experience. He was making maple syrup at his family's farm for a few days. Since the schools are closed he will be taking his daughter's to the farm to work on their berry patches. I think that's a great idea to get them away from all the insanity. I'll be resting a bit today. We had some light snow showers and are expecting a rainy morning and early afternoon. Tomorrow I'll get working on moving the dirt from my driveway to the new garden bed in the backyard. I'm sure that will take many more than a day or two to get it moved. Good news, my Roma tomato plants are germinating and popping through the dirt. I used the seeds from last year and they seem to be just fine. No need to apologize @TropicalBabies. There is so much information and mis-information flying around, it's OK. We all get a little caught up in it from time to time. I think the best thing all of us can do for now is to take care of ourselves and our families and help out the less fortunate if you are able. Have a great day everyone.

I think I may need to apologize to you all. The info I posted about be ready cuz 💩 was going to make a strong statement and you should make sure you got your shopping in... Well, that came from my son in law the minister from his minister boss. I had no reason to believe I was passing on crap info but I hear in the news today that a few fake stories were going around to the tune of what I shared w/ you folks. That is embarrassing. There is enough misinformation and down right lies going around w/o my help so again, I humbly apologize.

With that said... look at our rain totals for today!

Here are the latest 24-hour precipitation totals (inches) for each of the islands Monday evening:

12.33 Mount Waialeale, Kauai!
2.21 Schofield Barracks, Oahu
0.13 Molokai
0.03 Lanai
0.08 Kahoolawe
1.33 Kula Branch Stn, Maui
1.39 Puu Waawaa, Big Island
That info is rampant here on the mainland TB so it's not like you're the only one sharing it. It was discussed on the news over the weekend that the restrictions have been considered but aren't on the table yet. Frankly, people are rarely prepared for any disaster, even those who live where they're common, so no prep for this type of thing is hardly surprising.

Tomatoes are sprouting . This is the first year I've used a heat pad under the starter tray and it did speed up the process by a few days . Looks like I got almost 100% germination on them :D

Now that you have germination, do you still use your heat mat or turn it off? I normally keep mine on for at least a week after germination but I'm wondering if that is appropriate.

I am going to leave the heat mat on for another day or so and then shut it down . I'm no expert but have read if left on to long after sprouting it will cause leggy plants as they will try growing to find light even at night .

Today I planted 2 pear trees and 2 Elderberry trees in the back chicken yard. In the garden I planted a flat leaf parsley plant and an Italian oregano plant. I have some plastic that I draped over part of a cattle panel and I am going to stake it out like a tent. I plan to plant some lettuce and spinach and maybe carrots under it. It also covers the 2 herbs I just planted.
