What did you do in the garden today?

Lots of rain today but yesterday I managed to get some starts going (despite Jiffy’s inconsistency in their refill peat pellet sizes).

Also let the ducklings have their first full day outside and got the coop bedded. They all followed me back into the house in the evening as the neighbors giggled. I’m the resident crazy duck lady 😅

Today I’m going to plant my horseradish and call that enough!

Windy chilly cloudy day here . So I will share some tips today . You can produce a lot of seed for yourself if you need a lot . Some produce from the store - carrots and turnips have chilled enough to produce seed . Just a few plants will produce a lot of seed . Zone 5 and lower . Zone 6 and above may survive in your garden to produce seed . Shogun turnip survives zone 5 winters but it is too strong for my taste . Purple top will not usually survive a zone 5 winter . I just planted a purple top root among my Shogun . Hoping for a cross .

Going to clean out my shop today. A winter's worth of laziness and projects has made a mess of things. Heading for 65 today, so the bees will be out and I'll see if they need fed again.

I have 20 more gallons of compost soil, and that i'll put on the raised rows to refresh things. I'll get more compost this weed when I pop into the city for a couple groceries and to deliver caps.

The topped off rows I'll cover in straw.

The lemon seeds in the kitchen aren't coming up but I planted one lone cabbage seed in the middle and it's up. LOL. It will give DS something to 'oooo' and 'ahhhh' over.

The toll of extra humans in my domain is creeping up on me. I am used to solitude, and a chance to catch up on the detritus of life without it crumbling again. I start noticing every crumb, every water spot, every item out of place. LOL. But I get this way every Spring, so who knows.

My Tartan is now officially registered in Scotland. Now i just need to find the time to sit down and weave it. Yesterday, after sewing caps, I made another Revolutionary war skirt for my closet. I have in mind two more, plus an underskirt. A friend will make me another 'workday' corset. Then I have three hats to design, but those are rainy day items.

This week will be sunny and I'll move the dirt from the new apple tree holes that are laying in the yard, see about picking up the barn mess, and cleaning the garages.

OH, DS printed me a couple of cool little plant clips with a round bit on each end and a hinge in the middle. I currently have them trying to make the raspberry canes behave. We shall see.

Yup day 5 of rain here also does not lend one to be outside allot
