I love butter and its a good lettuce to grow!I never grew butter lettuce but did grow green leaf lettuce very successfully last year. When the head looks like lettuce from the store take it. If you wait too long it can get coarse and bitter I found. Any sign of a stem shooting up to eventually produce seeds and you better take the head right away. I was pulling the entire plant last year, but have since read that it's better to cut with a sharp knife just above the dirt.
I'm trying Boston Bibb this year. It's small, but I enjoy it's taste and texture.I love butter and its a good lettuce to grow!![]()
re: harvest...we start with the thinnings. Then you can move to picking the outer leaves or by pulling up the entire plant. However, as @BReeder! mentioned, I rarely pull up the entire plant. I find it better to snip (or use a knife) the leaves at ground level. Enjoy!!
I am a huge fan of most lettuces as they are easy for us to grow. Bibb is no exception! I love the tiny varieties with different textures and tastes. Good 'old arugula remains a favourite. Anything spicy is right up my ally!! 🌶I'm trying Boston Bibb this year. It's small, but I enjoy it's taste and texture.
Um... diddly. Again....What did you do in your garden today?
That's the spirit! The sun will return I promise.Trying to maintain gratitude, I received a notice for me seeds! They're now in Fontana, CA. Hoping to receive in the next few days!!
