What did you do in the garden today?

I got the kitchen and bathroom swept and mopped. Now I’m going to mix up some hummingbird food and put it out. A friend reported seeing them yesterday!!
I have a lot of things on my to do list. So we will see how much of it I get done!

Yup. Our walmart, lowes and home depot typically have quite a few things left at this time of year, I often get stuff on clearance about now. Lowes and HD look like they didn't put anything out and walmart had slim pickings available. I got the last jalapeno plant they had.

I have been buying all my plants at home depot and sunbirds they have the largest best available but have a great garden center all year

What do you use for hummingbird food?

4:1 water:sugar for ours ruby throated and buffbellied are coming through now for us. We use the turbinado type sugar in hopes it is healthier for them also it changes color to completely clear or cloudy(bad bactrrial) when it needs a change.

In Ohio, we had hummingbird feeds up all over and little nests up in the pear trees. One day, a mantis was hunting bumble bees on the feeder and grabbed a little hummingbird instead. I pounced on the mantis and rescued one very confused little fluffy butt.

I stopped feeding any as it was lunch for our outside cats
