What did you do in the garden today?

Should hit 60 again today . Pear tree is in full bloom finally . Finished privacy fence . Ran out of screws but used some longer ones instead of going out in public to buy . Mowed . I do miss browsing the plants and trees for sale . 10 chicks hatched yesterday . I have not hatched much for 2 years so time for some replacements .
I stopped by Menards on Saturday. Most of the plant tables were empty surprisingly. They did have plenty of trees and shrubs though. I'm not sure were Sparland, IL is, but here in the suburbs of Chicago they must not be expecting people to buy many garden plants. Oddly enough, a lot of people are planting a garden for the first time this year due to the additional time at home coupled with the scare of a lack of food in stores. I would think stores like Menards would be selling plenty of garden plants.

I'll be out in the garden this afternoon likely. I intend to attach corrugated steel to the frame I built yesterday and then fill the last two raised beds. I'll probably get the fire pit going again too to burn some more branches from the tree and shrub I cut down yesterday. I might manage to plant some seeds outdoors too. The cabbage, kale, onions (bulbs), lettuce, radishes, and cauliflower can all be planted now in the raised beds (once the last two are filled). I'd like to transplant tomatoes that are starting to get root bound, but the ground isn't ready and I need to run a wheelbarrow through there on Friday to haul out the remainder of the dirt pile that's in my way. Progress...

I think the reason they're out is because everyone is going to start a garden so they can feed themselves  Better late than never?

Do you have room where it is ? We never trellised them
Sure we could trellis them but they are planted in N-S orientation and they would shade each other like that. They have plenty of room where they are, but this is a first time ever to plant them.

Most things we plant here have very low yields as it is so hard to time our November-April("winter" really spring) plantings. My wife still hasn't given up on her Brussel sprouts even though they are ending each day looking dead on the ground. The carrots made it through winter and we were discussing letting a couple of happy ones go to seed for our next winter planting of them as every variety of seed we have laying about is heirloom as it is.

The local commercial farmers I keep an eye out on their fields. The onions are in now, sorghum is producing seed heads that have yet to turn red, corn is still coming up between 2-5ft tall, and they have already put cotton in the ground. I haven't seen any sugar cane plantings yet at all this year. I don't bother watching the citrus as there isn't any rotation of crops there.

A photo update in the raised beds. 5 done, 1 to go. I am waiting for DW to help me carry the wooden frame and get it into place just. Things are a mess, but I am getting there.
