What did you do in the garden today?

Grandson came over this evening for some social distancing visiting of the puppies. He decided to help me in the garden ( except I wouldn't let him in because last time he stepped on all the plants we were planting!! :lau 😂
So he helped by pulling up weeds from around the outside of the garden fence while I was inside the garden cutting asparagus. This shot is of him caring armloads of the weeds to the chickens!
What a good kid! Is his mom open to renting him out? :wee

@TropicalBabies glad you healed quick, sounds painful! & Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing.

@WthrLady I got sun burned too - I didn't think I'd be in the garden long so I didn't put on any sun block (not a fan of it) so now I pay.

@pasdechat73 you cured me of wanting to grow artichokes! I have a friend that tried them a couple years ago & she only got 1 by the end of the 2nd season so she gave up.

@Acre4Me thank you so much for the pics, you have given me some really good ideas for next year. I figured my trellis' won't be big enough, now I know for sure, lol! I think DH will be able to work something good in the corners of my raised beds.

Are you talking about this Sueby? It's an inedible succulent, string of pearls. It's hanging out in the center of my garden and I love it!

California is the biggest grower in the US I think but they'll grow anywhere pretty much.

Here's a mature plant pic, not mine but I've posted tons in the past

Yes, that one! It is so beautiful! Very cool placement too.

So morning everyone. Back to work after a great weekend of planting & gardening. I got the chicken coop cleaned out too - a complete clean out only happens twice a year. Boy chickens are dusty! We bought a 2nd chest freezer, much bigger than we wanted but at the moment you can't get a freezer anywhere because they apparently all come from China & since nothing is coming in we had to take what we could (finally) find used. We will sell it when we can find one a bit smaller but it will work for now. But when we set it up DH says guess we have to get meat birds now. Haha, yay!!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all. May the 4th be with you! / Happy Star Wars Day. One of the many reasons I love this thread is that in spite of over 40 years of gardening I'm still learning lots from all of you. Good golly, did I mess up with the dill @Sueby. When I finally thought I had a grip on the whole companion planting thing, I didn't do enough research on the dill. I'll have to figure out where to plant it now. I'm thinking separate pots that I can move around. Yesterday, OMG! It got up to 80F in my little Wee Farm bubble. I managed to finish hauling 6 more buckets of dirt up into the main garden. The ground around the step is still a sticky, soggy mud. As for pole bean supports, last year I made "tee pee" towers out of 5 foot bamboo stakes for the beans. They are portable and will be using them again this year in a different garden bed. However, they are not nearly as nice looking as your frames @Acre4Me. And of course mine are shorter because I'm vertically challenged. I love all the pictures, so pretty. Have a great day everyone.

So if I want to practice my incubation skills and throw some dual purpose chicken eggs (RIR & BR) under the cooker. Would you want whatever hatched out for future freezer birds? I won't have any room to brood and raise them for a few months. Just a thought!

Let me talk to DH tonight & see what he says!! Thank you so much for the offer! I purchased some 7ft bamboo poles from amazon to try those for the beans too, we'll see how that goes. They haven't come in yet, but should next week.

@FortCluck I have never grown it, but I know people use it kind of like mint, in a drink or it a fruit salad. I know the hummingbirds love it!

Good morning gardeners. Quick note. I was watching the news and they're talking about Asian giant hornets. They are in the US now, found in WA state and they kill honey bees. @WthrLady I thought of you immediately, they can sting through a bee suit and can be deadly. I can't keep bees here, Africanized are too common to risk it unfortunately.
