What did you do in the garden today?

Every seen Harry Potter Episode when Ron is spewing up slugs. Yup. Okra.
When we lived in the deep south it was everywhere. I couldn't stand the stuff.
I have not, but if there were even the slightest doubt that I should give it a try - you just sealed the deal. :gig

I am wondering how @Wee Farmer Sarah cooks hers now though!

3.5 inches of rain in 4 days.
I am about to go out and see how wet the tomato holes are. I might have to wait another day to get them in the ground. I still need to make the tomato food for the holes anyway.

I planted a whole flat of cushaw squash seeds about 5 weeks ago. Only about half germinated and were planted. The rest of the cells were duds. They've been sitting on the garage floor near the door for a week waiting for me to compost the seed soil and clean the cells. Yesterday I notice 7 more squash poking through the soil! Weird squish squashed. I'll plant near the bee hives.

I put up a goldfinch feeder yesterday. We must have 30 of them here. So stinking cute.

We pulled the trigger and bought a haymaking trio for the ranch. We've been hiring a team to do it every year since we've been here. They are impossible to find. It's never the same team twice. They do not communicate. The don't come when I want my hay harvested (early - more alfalfa and grasses late- grass and twigs (cattle hay)) They always come late. Forget to come and bale after taking it down. Allow it to get rained on. On and on and on.

The equipment will never pay for itself. It is ridiculously expensive. We decided before we even bought it that we would refuse any one that asked us to do their fields. (Our field is meticulously maintained and clean.) I don't want to damage or ruin the machinery on hidden garbage in their field as the closest repair for this machine is a day round trip drive. And it would leave me without a machine. But at least we'll be getting our hay in when we want it. BUT UGH......$$$$$$$$ ya know?

Off to move laundry, walk the orchard and garden. HAGDA!

Going back to the okra bashing. I just cant even imagine waking up at 3 AM starving and thinking "OH yeah I'll just reheat that fried okra in the fridge" has never happened in my life.

At that point I'll be thinking ramen, rotell and canned chicken or anything else or maybe just the saltines.

Saltines, the apple of the pantry.

This seems like the right place to post, I’m sorry if it isn’t. Not quite a garden but I decided I’d plant some chicken-edible flowers on my coop and I’d thought I’d share. The buckets have marigolds (supposedly promotes tissue growth and acts as an anti oxidant) and the flower box is geraniums. Anyone else do this and what do you plant? Those are cute! Honestly, my flock never touched marigolds. They love grass so I plant that but they get herbs and anything I toss from the garden. Except tomato or potato greens.

Same here - they looked at me like I was crazy when I tired with the marigolds. & I planted them just for the chickens, I hate marigolds. :smack But dig up a patch of grass for them & they're all over it!
