What did you do in the garden today?

2-3 dozen crushed and dried egg shells- I whirl them in the food processor
2 cups bone meal
1/2 cup Epsom salts
14 crushed aspirin- the normal ornage ones, not the coated ones, they're too hard to powder

I put 1Tablespoon per planting hole at planting, then 1Tablespoon top dressed around the plant about every 14 days. I toss it down before a good rain.
Thanks!! I'm going to try this with tomatoes thus fall!

Good morning gardeners. @NewBoots is that sage ornamental or culinary? I went out at 0330 to water the oleanders but I think I'm going to give everything else the day off and wait until tomorrow. I need to get out to the coop and get some chores done still. Tonight we have to put down one of my girls, I wasn't going to keep her but it still makes me sad she's not feeling well. One of the young cockerels is getting brave and mounting the girls when he thinks Angus isn't looking :gigThe first time Angus just stood there in shock but today he knocked the youngster off. Didn't beat him up though, so that's good. Have a great day all!

Sorry to hear about your hive struggles, @WthrLady. So...do you buy new bees for the queen?
No. The queen is in residence. Just most of her court has flow off to their old home several miles down the road. She's laying eggs with those that stayed with her, so they are loyal to her and her brood will be too.

I think the keeper that sold this package to me didn't wait long enough to ensure the swarm was bonded with their new queen.

It's ok. The season is young they'll figure it out.

Did you see that new queen vibrational vocalization video? I think it was something like quacks and something else. https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-53029218

Now that sounds like a great plan maybe use some succulents
like hens chickens also
Now that is an excellent idea, the bluff gets rain but since it's basically sand and rock it drains very fast. We should plant more of the native succulents as well.
Basically, vodka jello shots for your evening meal or add any clear spirit to the golytely.
Seriously? That freaking prep day is the worst, anything to make is easier would be awesome!
@NewBoots that sage is SO pretty!
Yeah, I'm really hoping the seeds do well. I potted a couple dozen. :fl
So do you all pinch of the first couple of blooms from your tomato plants while they're small, or do you let them go? I can never decide which way to go & have a bunch on the San Marzanos.
I never have the nerve to. I really hope your back feels better, back trouble just makes everything hard.

Purely ornamental, but I wouldn't be surprised if the foliage has a nice scent, a lot of sages do.

Sorry about your girl, that's not easy. We have 3 cockerels and I knew I'd have to freezer camp them, in my head, but now the reality of having to do it has been actually sinking in. I keep waiting for them to take away my wiggle room and start crowing.

Watering is done for the day and now I'm watching Endgame and cleaning the fridge, then heading to my grocery pickup. Once I get back it'll be lunch and time to get the mowing done.

Thanks! I'm not looking forward to processing these boys either. It's hot and the work is smelly and messy. I put a bunch of pullets on craigslist so hopefully they'll be headed out soon.

I bought the cones and the plucker to go on a drill have not used it
but am not too worried with the puchase here also picked up a standing propane stove two burners outdoor unit ..
