What did you do in the garden today?

@karenerwin love the bee pics! Is that greenhouse attached to her house - like as in the windows are open? That's a lot of work!

I put up a sun shade (made for my jeep, lol) over the lettuce. Some of it was about to bolt & for sure this heat will do it. I watered last night, wish we would get some rain but I think all we're getting is heat & humidity. @Wee Farmer Sarah I don't know how you do it without the ac, we've had them in for at least a month, lol! They will be on all day, every day through this wave.

I had to sprinkle sweet pdz all over my deck & sweep it in the cracks because that stupid chippie that lives under there has made the smell of urine unbearable. Gross.

@littledog that's a good idea, like a tuna salad inside a roma. I'm going to have to try that.

Have a great day everyone!
The greenhouse was up against the concrete side of her house. You actually had to step outside the basement door to enter the greenhouse door.

Was out fishing tonight and we saw a billow of black smoke go up. Kind of an odd hour to start a burn pile of trees, being black we knew it wasn't a grass fire. It got bigger and bigger and bigger until my stomach sank. I KNEW then it was someone's house or barn. We threw everything in the truck and raced up the hill. DS got his drone in the air, and I drove down the valley. Neighbor lost their entire huge barn.
No news yet if it was the machine shop or stock barn. I think it was the stock/hay building. I'm sure news will race across the valley quickly.
I don't know this neighbor personally, but we all rally together regardless.

So sad.

@WthrLady that's awful. Hopefully it was just hay! Ugh.

@NewBoots what are you doing with all the little rabbit babies? You know I would love pics, LOL. I bet Cupcakes littles are adorable now.

@Acre4Me was your critter back?

I'm losing a bunch of pole beans. I'm wondering if maybe the metal bed is too hot for them, is that even possible? I only say this because it's the side where the sun comes up & it's the only place where they're turning yellow & have stopped growing - all others are doing fine.

& I decided that I did not screw up & plant the bush squash instead of the vine - the supplier messed up & ALL the squash that were supposed to be vines are bush. Boy does that really screw me up. :he

The Morning Glory I planted a few days ago is already coming up, can't wait to see what colors I have!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning gardeners. Happy Summer Solstice! Another hot day today. It was 70F when I got up at 6 am. Forecasted to get up to at least 92F today. The shade cloth over the cabbage and lettuce worked really well. There was no droop from the heat at all. I uncovered it when the sun moved and will cover it again when the sun starts to hit that garden bed. I'm hoping this will keep the lettuce from bolting. It is a heat tolerant variety, so I guess I'll find out just how tolerant it is. Not much planned for today. I want to move more dirt into the chicken run and put up a perch for the littles. Other than that, just a little light cleaning in the house. I think I have a dahlia coming up @Sueby. It will take several more days to be sure, but the leaves that popped through the dirt look very much like the dahlia I bought. My asparagus seems to be doing quite well so I'm excited for my first little "crop" of that next Spring. I sure hope your "digger" turns out to be something that not a threat to your chickens @Acre4Me. That's an awesome score on the glass panels @karenerwin. Can't wait to see you craft it into a nice greenhouse. Have a great day everyone and stay cool!

@Wee Farmer Sarah - yay on the dahlia!!

Here's my shade over my lettuce, I'm not ready to let my lettuce bolt yet, it's so good! The shade worked well yesterday here too, no wilt at all. I picked a bunch just now to bring to my mom.
