What did you do in the garden today?

I already talked about losing our little Maltese dog last Friday. This past Tuesday we lost our big Border Collie/Heeler as well. Call me an anthropormorphizing crazy person, but we believe Big Dog was trying to tell us he was ready to go.
Big dog didn't come with us to the vet when little dog went, but he sniffed Little Dog's burial box in detail, and was with us when we buried little dog under the new willow tree.

Big Dog had been doing well on medication for heart disease for about 18 months, then this past April he grew a lump on his leg, which was diagnosed as cancer. He was 14 years old, so we decided to not subject him to any surgery, just keep him happy and comfortable for whatever time he had left.
Still, we expected a few more months with him, not to lose him just four days after losing our little dog.
Every time Big Dog went outside, he either stared at Little Dog's gravesite, or just looked around at his outdoor environment, or laid down in the field. Finally, he quit eating - not even his favorite treats - then he collapsed in the yard.
Call me crazy, but we believe he was telling us that he understood Little Dog was gone and not experiencing anxiety or pain any more, and was trying to find a way to tell us that he wanted us to do the same for him as well.
So we did.
At the vet, he seemed to understand everything. He was not scared at all. What a brave boy.
Here's our little weeping willow tree, that they're both buried under.

Sorry for your loss of both dogs!! I’m glad they had good lives!

@littledog so sorry, again. Uff, that's horrible. What a lovely tree for them, I love weeping willows & it's a perfect tribute. On another note, I've been wondering about pickling squash, good to hear your results, I may experiment with 1 jar but I won't do a ton just in case!

@WthrLady funny, I had a fox in the yard the same day you did! Chickens are pretty safe from it, but I chased it off anyway. The bear was spotted a few houses down again.

I am so over COVID - my rental house was supposed to go on the market today & my tenant called yesterday & said her son tested positive for COVID. Well isn't that just peachy? :he

Disgusting outside. I have to go into work shortly, haven't even gotten to walk the garden yet so no updates there! I ordered the neem oil for my cukes & of course the delivery was delayed, should have been here on Friday. I don't think they're gonna make it. :barnie

Well have a great day all! Happy gardening!

Good morning gardeners. OK, it's 80F with 80% humidity. ICKY! And just to ramp up the ick factor, a misty drizzle. I did very little yesterday. Today, another load of laundry and I really need to freeze peas and green beans. I can't eat them fast enough. I picked what I believe is really the last of the peas this morning. A nice little haul of bush beans along with 2 yellow squash and a zucchini. More tomatoes are popping out on the vines. My bird house gourd plant has now reached 6 feet and is clinging onto one of my butterfly bushes. Did I mention the humidity? I turned on one of the AC units and my wrist is still sticking to the mouse pad. Your garden looks lovely @adirondak5. Is that fried okra I see on your plate @MrLeeHo? Yum! So sorry for your loss @littledog. It is painful to lose a beloved pet. Too many fox sitings. Maybe it's the heat. Have a great day everyone and stay cool.

Good morning gardeners. @littledog I'm so sorry about your pups :hugs

We've been battling ants in the grass, in the gardens, etc. I flooded an area in the grass last weekend with permethrin but either there was another colony, or it didn't work. Hubs used something else yesterday so we'll see if that does. The other areas that I sprayed seem to have no ants but I put out sime baits anyway. I did a bit of reading about Hopseed bush and it can be grown as a small tree, perfect! It's going in the xeriscape garden; when it's fully mature it'll block that damn google maps vehicle from taking pics of my backyard and shade that garden part of the day. It's cloudy and humid this morning, temps are supposed to drop to around 100* with increasing rain chances but I'm not holding my breath for it. 10 or 20 percent chance means we ain't gettin nuthin' worth mentioning. K, I have holes to dig, one of them will probably take all week to finish in our cement here. Have a great day everyone!

PS, my dandelion and luffa seeds came, and I ordered a couple of elephant ear corms.

10-20% chance here means you roll the dice and cut the hay, and hope for the best. LOL

POURED last night. A steady 1.5 inches over an hour and a half. So I'm glad to have powder fed the tomatoes.

Abandoned hive has been cleaned out. I'm not buying anymore bees. It's swarms or splits from here one out.

I have a project started in the woodshop. I know you all will love it. It's ridiculously humid today, but cooler, so I'll do lessons and work and then wander out there for a while. I need to run to the next town over to grab a lime and some taco chips.

Birds are going to be ticked off if I keep them locked up for days on end for a fox, especially with the hyper bouncy 7 weeks olds out there with them. I think my 6 year old grandma hen went "broody" just so she could have a place in the spa, in front of the fan, in the woodshop with the tv and radio just to get away from them. LOL.

Now that's the life!
