What did you do in the garden today?

G'morning gardeners. My son dropped off 5 bales of hay yesterday. I was going to start spreading it around but worked on the holes for transplants instead. Not for long though, it's monsoon season and I was dripping sweat in no time. I forgot to lock up my chickens last night and my heart skipped a few beats this morning when I realized it. I knew the rooster was alive, I could hear him from inside. My only excuse is that my migraine meds make me fuzzy in the head. I walked through the garden this morning to make sure whatever looked droopy in the heat was looking good this morning; that's the easiest way to tell if I need to water. I had 6 ayam cemani eggs shipped, only 3 were fertile and 2 hatched yesterday. I tossed the third this morning so I can clean out the bator; I have some Mille Fleur d'Uccle eggs coming next week just for fun and something different. I found a website where I can get a small order of Egyptian Fayoumi chicks so I'm on the waiting list for those. I'm going to breed those with my Nn roo for heat hardiness and Marek's resistance. K, gotta get ready for work, have a great day!

today I found tiny holes in my Cantaloupe and Cucumbers. I am not as concerned with the Cantaloupe because its all going to the chickens anyways. But I make all sorts of refreshing foods with Cucumbers. Nothing against Cantaloupe but I won't eat more than one a year. I only grew it to replace my failed bean crop and Cantaloupe seedlings were about all that was available.

(worm like things inside the tiny holes)

Morning all.

Butter Tablet is off the stove. Heading to a friends woodpile to get lumber for the bench seat then I'm mowing all afternoon. It's only going to be a humid 106 today. Better than the rest of the weekend so it will have to do.

No gardening to do. Might go hunt for hornworm on the mustard after dark. I should water while I mow. Next copper treatment is next on my list, but that's Wednesday.

Lots of tomatoes out there, now I just need them to make it to harvest.

Have a great day all.

( @igorsMistress glad the hens are OK, I totally get the meds thing.)

Look at this Butternut!! The green one! The other butternut in pic is farther ahead, of course, but is also a different seed. The big green one is called "Trombone" and says can get to 40 or 50 lbs per squash. Well, if it does I'll be impressed! I'm already impressed with this one. 3 seeds of Trombone germinated, but so far, only this one squash. The pics are just two views of the same squash. Oh, and these pics taken yesterday around lunchtime. It is bigger today! Yay for butternuts!

lol. :thJust about at my pay attention zone. Rats, guess I had better go walk the yard and cut bags to weatherproof the coops cuz ply went elsewhere. Chickens are not going to be happy about this, they have not been cooped up since they were 3 months old. Maybe we will have enough wind to drowned out the complaints of confinement. Well, there is still time for Douglas to change his mind.

Nothing much to do in the garden cept pick the close to ready peppers, eggplant and tomatoes. Mangoes, papaya and star fruit if need be. Think it is all going to be about buttoning up and maybe a mow. I'll still have to go up to Koke'e and do what I can do after a friend, who is borrowing cabin, has left Saturday noon.
Still not worried... right? Though my other chicks go into lockdown on Monday. Breeder has a battery back up thank goodness.
K. all, have an awesome day!!! Loving the solutions to your bugs all. You folks are on it!

Let’s hope it changes course away from you @TropicalBabies. Good luck.

Tossed some kentucky wonder beans in with the tomatoes. We shall see how that goes.
Watered (drip irrigation) for two hours, and the orchard for an hour. Between the heat and the wind, it was due for a DEEEEP soaking, so of course we'll have two inches of rain on Sunday.

Whole acreage is mowed. Flies were biting like mad today.

Hmm, I spent $180 for 100 feet of 1/2 " x 4' HC on Amazon. But the price you were quoted is tempting - what if you priced out doubling-up and offsetting the HC in certain lower areas to make a stronger barrier, and doing the roof in one layer of 1" HC? Would it be less expensive than buying all 1/2"?
You might have different predators than we do - for us, a 1" wire or net barrier on the roof works for the owls and hawks we have.
Would have been a good idea. I thought about that too. They had good prices, but couldn’t get in any inventory!
