What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks! Hey you know the dehydrator thing is so easy . https://practicalselfreliance.com/dehydrator-recipes/

Thanks a bunch!

He's tried the homemade epsom salt, dawn & vinegar spray but it doesn't work, he even tried burning with a torch, but nothing works like weed killer.

Needles?! What? Are you okay?! :(

Okay, I'm pretty bummed to hear about that. I've been not-so-subtly angling for a Weed Dragon for ages...cathartic, if nothing else.

Homemade sourdough bread & peach preserves sound like a beautiful day, @Wee Farmer Sarah. Your home must smell amazing! As in "the mailman knocks on the door to ask what's cooking" good. ;)

What a shame to be allergic to peaches, @WthrLady! That would kind of break my heart. :( But then I'm celiac and have had to forego all kinds of things...but still. Peaches! I'm sorry to read that. But you are dead on with the peach-cardamom combo. That's almost heavenly right there.

That is not a mushroom, @Sueby, that is an alien, and you need to contact the appropriate authorities immediately. 👾👾👾

Also, nice potting bench!

Hope your hibiscus make it, @igorsMistress! We have not yet received our chip drop, but have signed up and are eagerly awaiting its arrival (we're in a rural area, so it may be a while...). Have heard happy things about the service, though!

Quiet garden day today—in fact, nothing got done, including what I'd planned, because we had to unexpectedly run one of our feline overlords (overladies, really, but...cats!) to the vet. They couldn't really pinpoint anything...plus the whole experience was weird, we had to hand her in her carrier over to the tech and talk to the vet over the phone from the parking lot. They sent her home with a sort of "catch it all" medicine and will call in a few days to see how she is. God willing she is all right...I know I *could* handle it, but having to euthanize a third 10-year-plus pet in just over a year and a half would feel like too much right now. God willing...That concern expressed, she is absolutely acting like her normal self, being crazy and wanting to eat everything and overall acting like the perma-kitten she has always been. She was literally halfway up the wall, wild-eyed and fluffy-tailed, a few hours after we returned from the vet. (That is normal for her...Tortietude!) That's a good sign.

We did eat a few tomatoes with dinner, though. ;) (Of course.) And I did arrange another nasturtium bouquet, because why not? They are so happy! It rained on and off anyhow. So a fair bit of my garden work was covered for me. ;) Maybe tomorrow I can get some garden stuff done! ;D

Happy gardening, all!

Thanks a bunch!

Thank you Jen, I hope the hibiscus makes it too, I love the flowers. I hope your feline overlord is fine, it would definitely be too much in such a short span of time.

Thanks @NewBoots.

I couldn't stop eating our last batch this past week. Good thing I made a smaller pot. This batch of puree had a lot more slicing tomatoes in it and it was NOTICEABLY sweeter than the batches I make with almost all SanMarzano meat tomatoes. I didn't have to use ANY sugar in this last batch of soup! No wonder when canning these new breed sweet tomatoes you have to add acid. I didn't have to add baking soda to calm it down either, that's a rarity!

My sister adds a bayleaf to her soup while it simmers and removes before eating. I don't care for bay, so I leave it out.

If you aren't canning the soup, you can brown the onions and garlic in olive oil or butter.

@NightingaleJen add me to the list of those annoyed with the dragon. We used it once and it's been hanging on the wall ever since. I swear my farm weeds thought it was some kind of spa treatment.

@WthrLady ooohhh, tomato soup! I'm gonna have to check that out! I love tomato soup, used to love a can of Campbells with a grilled cheese as a kid, but now that canned stuff is ick to me. I usually take a can of Rotel, add some cooked onion & a chunk of cream cheese & whirl it up with the whirlie stick. Pretty good! But now you have me wondering if I can water bath can some...

Thanks a bunch!

The fire works on the weeds above ground, but they just grow right back in a matter of days because it doesn't get the roots. I hope the kitty is ok!

Morning all. Back is still sore, but getting back to normal.

Took a walk through the garden not expecting much & ended up with more than a shirt full of green beans. I have enough to do some more dilly beans, but I might just blanch & freeze these & have some for dinner. I don't think I have it in me to can today.

Alright, have a wonderful day everyone.

Ok, how do I find @WthrLady blog?
IN my signature at bottom of my posts.
I only can the puree and make soup when I want it. Every batch of soup is slightly different, and with water canning, you are playing russian roulette with that acidity level of unknowns if you turn it into soup. Water canning puree you simply add the citric acid.
Although, I don't see why you couldn't water can it. I pressure can all my tomato products. I'm sure there are soup recipes out there for water canning.
