What did you do in the garden today?

Picked 2 more zucchini ( I have 14 of them on the counter now and none of them are small), a bunch of cherry tomatoes, and some green beans. Got all the arrangements completed for my mom except for getting a minister to do the service. I'll call tomorrow and ask the minister at the church she was attending at the assisted living place.
Got no canning done, maybe tomorrow.

On another note, my mother passed away in her sleep Sunday morning. I'm going to the funeral parlor tomorrow to see what we are actually allowed to do for a service. She pre-planned her funeral but that was pre-covid. I don't think they will allow us to have the sit down catered meal she wants to have. Plus I'm not positive that the restaurant she wants to cater it has made it through covid. It may be closed for all I know.

I am there with you .. I am so sorry... You have to be safe for you family now she knows that also .. I am so sorry my friend be well

Thanks Penny! We decided not to do the sit down catered part. Mom was 85 so her friends are in the 70 to 90 range and we just decided it wasn't worth the risk!

Morning all. DH is gonna kill me, I left the water on in the garden overnight. I think I'll wait till the bill comes in & see before I admit anything. :gig It went for 13 hours or so. It's gonna be bad.

@NewBoots how long have you been getting soft shelled eggs? It's been a while, hasn't it? Do you know who's doing it?

@karenerwin I think that was a wise choice to not do the dinner. My personal feelings are that your Mom gets it. ☺

They said even we in New England were supposed to have poorer air quality from the fires, but I haven't seen that happen. @igorsMistress with your breathing troubles, the fire & more wood chips, please be careful. The chips won't go anywhere...;)

Not much going on here today, I'm afraid to go outside, the garden may have washed away. It's not very nice out today, hot & humid.

Have a great one.

You know those little spiral, stretchy plastic keyrings that managers wear near their elbows to hold essential, frequently used keys? Or those same ones that they treat with mosquito repellant? We have one hanging on all the faucets. Turn on the water, wear the bracelet of shame. Turn it off, and put it back on the faucet handle.

Came up with that after DS left the garden irrigation on for 17 hours. We're on a well, so it only cost me electricity, but we could have filled a swimming pool with all the water. Thank goodness we're on a hill!

Good morning gardeners. It’s a cool morning, finally! Since it has cooled considerably I’m going to skip watering today as I think it’s unnecessary. Except for the society garlic and the seeds that is. @Sueby I’ll most likely wait until Saturday morning for wood chips, hubs has to work anyway and that’ll give the wind a chance to blow all the junk away. It’s a windy morning but the air is cool, a welcome change! Have a great day everyone!

Good morning gardeners. I processed 6 half pints of green tomato salsa verde and sliced 3.5 pounds of peaches for freezing yesterday. This morning I dug up all the potatoes I could find. Total haul for the entire harvest was around 5 pounds. It was a fun experiment using sprouted grocery store potatoes but I think in the future I'll be looking into buying seed potatoes and using grow bags. Much less work. The leeks never grew a whole lot, I'm guessing it wasn't happy after I pulled the carrots. I will let them overwinter in the ground and see what happens. The stems on a few of my butternut squashes are starting to turn brown, so I will be picking those soon to keep them safe from Lou the Ground Hog. The garden is pretty much winding down quickly now. I have some poblanos still growing as well as a couple of jalapenos and okra. Of course the green beans are still going. I still have tomatoes to process but that can wait until tomorrow at least. Although I've been eating fresh tomatoes for awhile now, I realized I hadn't had a BLT this entire summer. That is on the menu for lunch today. Well, back to processing peaches for the freezer now. Have a great day everyone.
