What did you do in the garden today?

That is so very pretty!!! The whole setup, the colors you used and how neatly you've got everything is just a beautiful picture.

You clearly have a talent for color and form, an artist!

Thank you!

that's fantastic with the landscape boxes out in front and pavers. I may steal (borrow indefinitely without permission) this idea.

thank you, and go right on ahead! :)

How do you guys remove grass to make beds? Manually with a shovel or do you use some kind of tiller?

on my raised beds i dont, the foot and a half of dirt i fill in is too much for it to come up through, otherwise i mow it short as possible and just till it and rake out the clumps while i'm raking out the rocks and such

Picked three strawberries, watered, had a beer, watered again, had a beer, trimmed back the squash and zucchini as they were encroaching on the peppers and strawberries, had a beer...I DID use the hose for watering..... Also, since the garden is in the orchard where the birds are kept, built a little PVC roost for them. Three got on it immediately....Alice is a bit of a chicken, I guess. Had some blackberry bushes coming out that were from the previous owner, so I watered them...with the hose!
With all that beer, It is a good thing you mentioned the hose, or we'd wonder.

I have done it about every you can think of . Easiest is roundup and then till when it is dead . Much the same as farm fields are done . You will often see fields of brown weeds in the spring . Then they chisel plow and plant .

I use a tiller. You can also just use black plastic and water on a section of ground, letting the sun kill the grass underneath the plastic. Doesn't take long either. Then you can till or double dig after that if you want to. No need to pour poison all over your land to kill grass and grow a garden.

Honestly, I like Roundup. Black plastic works but you have to weight it down and it tends to blow around when you are putting it down. And then it can disintegrate partially and be a real bugger to clean up. And ...also...if you live in the south you are building fire ant havens. They love to get under anything.

Dirt tends to pack under plastic. If you buy concentrated roundup...like 40% it isn't very expensive if you buy off brands. Just don't spray once you plant.

I am not an organic gardener...
