What did you do in the garden today?

@drstratton, I :love LOVE:love Asian pears!!! My FIL grows them in E WA. YUM!! they are delicious fresh or dried.

I planted two Asian pear trees in my yard this past spring, so in a few years, I might just have my own. :love
These actually came from an orchard in Quincy WA...such a small world! 💞 Drying them is such a great way to use them! You might even get a few next year!

Heres my recent project:

Pickled eggs (2 jars of each).
First one is "Dilled eggs" with white vinegar, typical spices, onions.
next one is "Beet" using beet juice and apple cider vinegar and a touch of sugar
Last one is "Balsamic" using,... balsamic and garlic and onions, touch of sugar.

Hot solution poured over eggs, into sterilized jars, lidded, cooled to room temp, then into fridge. Not a true canning - they need to be kept in fridge, but I didn't make too many, and maybe we won't like one of these kind (like the balsamic...not sure what to expect), so should be a reasonable quantity to eat within a few months.

Meat chickens are 5 weeks old today. All males. Pretty good size!

I measured the garden after finishing cleaning it out. I have 13’ x 15’ of cleared area for next year’s garden. I still need more cover. The tools are all put away, and I let the chickens free range while I worked on a new run. They discovered the garden about ten minutes before I ushered them into the coop.
I think I have mentioned this in this thread before, but I just can’t keep apples healthy. Pesticides either aren’t working or are washing off too easily. Is there anything that stays on through dew? Also, how do I get the apples treated 12+ feet up?

spent the day between refurbishing an old coop and working on the winter garden (greenhouse). Although I did not get much construction done I did get more organized and cleaned up scraps and such.

It actually looks like a greenhouse when you put plants in there.

this corner is where I plan to put bubble cloner, it fits perfectly under the fan with enough room to remove the humidity dome.

Dropped some coco puffs from the rabbit pens in the pots to stimulate vegetative growth on the peppers I will be taking cuttings from.

I stuck some plants under the bench because I just need to keep them alive, there is enough light down there to keep them alive until spring. I have 14 Cayenne pepper plants and I do not need to take cuttings from all of them.

I cut back tomato plants as well as peppers. These are Oxhearts. I will be taking cuttings of these all winter long.

I just wanted to see if my coconut fiber pots fit in the trays, I can barely fit 8 but that's good enough for me. Thinking of planting small sunflowers to attract pollinators.

And now for the all the pictures of my mistakes in building. I do not have precision tools for a serious build however I give it my best shot.

IMG_7196.JPG

didn't line up flush.
IMG_7197.JPG

couldn't get it to line up straight. Most of those pieces that required an angled cut were off a little in one way or another.
IMG_7199.JPG

I did a sloppy job on that corner and may remove that board and cut that corner out a bit cleaner... that area I cut out for is my Fan Vent Door.
IMG_7200.JPG

Sometimes I just did a sloppy job and boards did not line up like they should.
IMG_7201.JPG

I got sloppy on that corner board.
IMG_7217.JPG

that gap in the boards was not so much sloppiness on my part but because I used dog eared fence board it just couldn't line up, its really tight at the top and bottom but due to warping and cheap craftsmanship (the norm for this product) at the mill that made these boards I have gaps I need to fill.

Oh my goodness trying to catch up and keep up wasn't easy. @igorsMistress I'm so so sorry to hear about your Nn.

I have been making a real push on getting my coop finished so the birds could go out. We did get the vents in and the coop itself secured so they are finally outside. Still work to be done and the run has to be done this weekend. Only going out when I get home under supervision right now. Anyway. Garden is still giving me plenty of bell peppers and jalapeños. The broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage seedlings i planted are looking nice. Don't think the mustard, collard, spinach, or carrots seeds I planted right before the last hurricane made it though. Busy weekend ahead. I have some yellow and green onion, and garlic ready to go in the ground. Guess the hubs is not going to find time for my raised bed before they have to be planted. He has been very busy on his sunken boat he has been working on for 3 1/2 months now. Hey at least he doesn't buy new I guess. @Compost King you have been very hard at work and it looks great.

I found where I hid the harvested shallots from myself, I'm so happy! I also found where I hid the Halloween candy so I am feeling on top of it!
Don't you just love it when you find things you hid from yourself, or forgot you had? LOL. A couple weeks ago I finally had to organize the laundry room because the furnace guy was coming, and I found a container of garlic bulbs I'd stored away - not too late to plant them!

Morning all!

@Compost King no criticisms from me, it' looks great!

I made the fermented peppers into hot sauce this morning, gonna wait till DH tastes it to see if it needs anything before I water bath can it. I bought 2 lbs of habaneros yesterday & we're getting more peppers from the neighbors. Will see if DH wants it fermented, or just cooked. Hopefully just cooked, fermenting is a pain with the stupid fruit flies & I don't have tons of room to store the jars while fermenting.

All set up to can outside with a friend today. I have the electric water bath canner out there, the grill will keep the jars warm & the burner on the side will cook the salsa, or boil the brine. I think it should work out ok!

Have a great day all, I'm off to chop up green tomatoes.
