What did you do in the garden today?

@Compost King your greenhouse is looking great!
@NewBoots maybe try a propane burner outside. I use one when I scald chickens for plucking and for all my canning. Don’t want to crack the stove top for sure.

Good morning gardeners. Thanks for your kind words about my roo. It really bummed me out but such is life when keeping chickens. I’ve done nothing outside but tend chickens the last couple of days. I’ve had work and the house has needed much attention. I did get a batch of elderberry syrup made yesterday though. That stuff reeks when it simmers but not too bad once it has some honey and vodka in it; i used a recipe with cinnamon and ginger in it this year. My daughter wants to use the rest of my berries to dye her hair:rolleyes: I said no.

My hands are still a bit purple from squeezing the the juice out and my nails look dirty even though I scrubbed up good with a brush. Hubs is excited it’s time for his daily shot lol.

The kids are still sleeping and the floor is in desperate need of mopping so I better get busy before everyone wakes up. Have a great day all.

Planted 10 Broccoli plants 2 days ago. Looking really good so far. Temperature in the low 80's. I've never had any luck growing it before. But I have always planted seeds before. Hoping these plants will grow and produce.
Good luck and welcome! We do like pics in this in thread, just sayin

planted Ginger, Oregano, Basil, Black oil sunflower, Velvet Queen sunflower, and Giant Paste Hybrid Tomatoes. They are in the greenhouse right now. I also built some shelves for seed starting trays.

I have 4 shelves in place, I have room for more.

They can slide right in place or I can prop them up on small boards because the trays I have now are too flimsy to hold any weight. I may invest in sturdier trays and if I do I will just slide them in.

I took some shims I did not need, split them in half and made labels for the seeds ai sowed in coconut fiber pots I have had in storage for 10 years. I may prematurely place a small piece of plastic in that corner up high to keep humidity up in that corner. My passive vent is in that corner too if I need to vent.
I can't wait to build a greenhouse! I have the perfect spot and the plan in my head of material needed and how to build it. (My dad and I have been building things and remodeling since I was 4 years old and we never really draw anything out) But my issue with building a greenhouse is Chicken Math is sort of outweighing the greenhouse. I am leaning toward doubling my chicken coop and run so that I can get more chickens. Then I had an idea of tripling the coop and then building the greenhouse in that "perfect spot". This idea would allow the flock to use the greenhouse in the winter months. But I am still thinking on that idea.
I love your pictures of the progress of the greenhouse and I am looking forward to the amazing treats that will grow throughout the year!

Good morning gardeners. Great work @Compost King. The greenhouse looks really good especially with plants in it. Funny thing this morning, one of my okra plants is blooming again. I'll take a picture later. I finally got my printer hooked up so I could print off labels for the salsa and jam. Yesterday I made the trip to my favorite orchard to pick up apples for canning. I got 1/2 bushel of courtlands for $18. The plan for the day is to move more dirt from the remaining pile in my driveway. This is the last load of dirt I'll be buying. It was way more dirt than I ordered so finding places to scatter it has been a bit challenging. I plan to swap out the composted stuff in the chicken run to toss in the garden beds. So I'm guessing I'll have to start cleaning up the garden before I can do that. I found a nice cabinet to store my canned goods in, but of course I need to put it together. There should be enough room to store my dehydrator inside it as well. Don't feel bad about the purple fingers @igorsMistress, it took four days to get the grape stains out of my fingers. Of course I still needed to do one more batch on Thursday. In the middle of squeezing the grapes I got a call from the pharmacy to let me know I could get my flu shot. I covered everything up and ran off to get my flu shot. Purple fingers and all. The senior high dose shot is usually scarce in October so I didn't want to miss out. Have a great day everyone and happy canning.

I took my pup to the vet yesterday afternoon and the little girl behind the counter almost didn’t want to take my debit card :gig

LOL. I'm like that during Mulberry season. But then so is half the county.
No hard set plans for the day, but a long list of things that need done. Not getting to anything I WANT to do, like weave and write.

Still hot, 90, still smokey, still dry, still dusty, still windy.

Had to drug the dog again last night. I have NO IDEA what got her going. About 9 she started acting like she wanted out, so we took her out, and she was restless, like a thunderstorm was coming in. Took her out again at 10. 10 more times until midnight. When we'd go out she'd just sit and sniff the air. When we came in, she would just pace, pant, and stare. Just like thunderstorms. So tossed her a pill and she went to sleep.

Good lord.

Any chance a predator is around?
My dogs don't like thunderstorms either since the tornado went through but they also know when the bear or cougar is around or the coyotes get too close to the property line.

Take your pick. Mountain lion, coyote, deer, possum, bobcat, raccoon, stray cats, foxes, skunk, owls, mink..... all those know the rules, just don't eat my critters and you're welcome to come by.

She may have smelled them on the wind. But then again she may have also smelled alpaca, chickens, the neighbors dinner.

The coyotes have been out in force the last three nights, so maybe that was it. Also possible she heard distant high school football fireworks or someone shooting down in the park. Or a bug landed on a leaf, WHO KNOWS... Beagle brains....am I right?
