What did you do in the garden today?

a couple months. I guess it wasnt as broken down as I thought when I started. peas and beans.
My personal opinion would be to plant somewhere else. Chicken manure has to sit for a minimum of about 6 months or it could burn your plants. And peas and beans don’t like a lot nitrogen if there’s to much you’ll get huge plants with no peas or beans.

yeah I think you may be right. except I think what I'll do is shovel it to somewhere else and bring in nicer actual rich soil (properly composted chicken pen dirt). because I made a pretty plan and i dont wanna change it haha.

Good afternoon gardeners. I watered today and the strawberries are looking good, the oregano is going crazy and the dill is very compact and bushy. I’m going to tear out the lemon balm, I’m pretty sure the cold temps have caused some damage and it’s getting quite a bit of shade from the dill. Another couple of weeks and I’ll be trimming a few bushes and side dressing with bunny poop. The fairy dusters are struggling a bit after transplant so I’ve given them some seaweed fertilizer today. That’s about it for the garden. I think one of the ducks might be a drake. Not sure what we’re going to do about that yet. G’nite all
Keep the drake around. I truly enjoy my drake. And he REALLY enjoys his ladies in the Spring.

I put some chicken pen dirt/poop/bedding in the garden and i expected it to compost down some more but I can actually smell the poop - which I cant smell IN the coop
Next time pile it up in a mind with leaves, straw or newspaper. Turn the pile with a shovel or fork once a week or so. It will break down faster and it won't smell like manure.

I'm just so surprised because it didnt smell like manure before I moved it. but I guess thats because the chicken pen was dry and the garden has gotten a bunch of rain.

Wet manure...:sick My duck run gets like sometimes. That's why I am planning to raise the pond a bit and start using bedding in the run. My runs are not covered and ducks don't poop in a roost like chickens.

Good to know.... I gave them a $20 donation. I also placed 2 separate orders for trees through my mother's membership account so hopefully that will generate some goodwill that they will actually send me the "freebies." Of the 12 trees I ordered, all of them were bareroot. All of them EXCEPT the Southern Live Oaks were easily 3 - 4 ft tall. The Live Oaks were more like 12-16" tall. I did spend months looking over the reviews and see a lot of people complain that their trees never came out of dormancy and died so I do have a little bit of anxiety about mine.
I know a few people that work in the main office. I never have a problem getting things replaced, and you can't beat the prices. But dang that survey never brings me anything ! LOL.
