What did you do in the garden today?

Hi all. I love going to historical villages and learning how things were done. I wish I’d picked my husbands grandparents brains more when they were around but sadly, I didn’t. I think I might have got on better with his moms folks though.
I know what you mean. My Mom's Mom ( my Grandma) made quilts but I'm not sure that I was even aware of that fact until close to when I got married. She was a very bitter, unhappy lady (she had a daughter pass away at the age of 3 due to appendicitis). I wish now that I had know earlier in life that she quilted and had the foresight to learn from her. She is long gone now and I have only been quilting a few years. I'm sure there were other things I could have learned from her too. Oh, she made these really cool crocheted bell ornaments that I have not been able to find directions for (or been able to replicate). 😢 She also made a lot of ceramics. My Grandfather, her husband, even built her a kiln!
Oh, well, nothing to be done about it now.
I used a jar of my Pina Colada Jam to make "Orange" chicken tonight. So I guess I made Pineapple chicken. It was real easy. Cut up chicken and cook. Stir in 2 TBSP soy sauce, Pina Colada jam and BBQ sauce. I seasoned it with garlic powder and ground ginger. Served over rice!
Going back to Poplar Bluff tomorrow to work on that house again. We rented a 20 cubic yard dumpster and almost filled it in 1 day from all the junk they left behind. Tomorrow we will get the last of it out of the house. The roof repair guys came by today. The HVAC guy comes by tomorrow. The plumber ( I can't wait to have toilets and running water down there!) and the foundation repair people come by next week. The electrician comes in mid February. We have electricity but it needs to be upgraded and the fuse box is in bad shape.
Still trying to get a tree guy to come cut down a HUGE dead tree that the city says must go.

Sorry, I didn't mean to change this into a building and repair thread!:lau

I get that @karenerwin - I wish I was old/mature enough to appreciate my grandmother. The knowledge that woman had & I wasted is unreal. She baked wedding cakes, would knit/crochet, garden, she made amazing foods like special easter eggs out of sugar with a scene inside & fancy stuff like that. I was just a bratty young 20 year old that wanted to hang out with my friends instead of my grandmother & I so regret that. I did get my love of baking from her though.

I sure do wish my freeloaders would start laying! I have been buying eggs from my neighbor. :smack

I just realized my neighbor has an accidental rooster & I should hatch some of those eggs (all GLWs)! :gig

Good morning gardeners. Good to hear you are making progress on the house @karenerwin. Some of my older ladies are laying every other day or so now. I get anywhere from 3 to 5 eggs a day, then maybe only 1 or 2 then back up again. Two of my hens are nearing their third birthday so I'm curious as to how the egg production will be when the weather warms up. It's cold here, apparently winter has arrived. One of my seed orders arrived yesterday. I ordered limas and string/pole beans and sweet corn from Ferry Morse. They are local in Massachusetts and I've had good luck with their seed in the past. The seed potatoes and other seeds are coming from Gurneys. Nothing to do outside for now. I've started tearing the wallpaper off my living room walls. My contractor gave me a good tip how to remove it without chemicals. It really works. I wish I had known this when I was doing the bathroom walls. I'm still waiting for the exhaust hood for my kitchen to arrive. I don't mind the gaping open space above the stove, but I do miss the light when I'm cooking. After the living room is painted I can move on to painting the kitchen cabinets. This should keep me occupied until it's time to get working in the garden.

The artichokes spouted this morning!:wee I was a little worried about them sincemy room is rather cool do to the duct work and insulation being horrible. But half of them have come up already!

I hear you! We bought an old farmhouse/property and the guy was a hoarder! SO. MUCH. JUNK!

I did get up to the greenhouse this morning. It was 48 degrees in there! I snipped some greens for the chickens. The sunshine is making me smile. Love that stuff, especially this time of year when it can be sooo gloomy!

LOL>
I bought one of those programmable wifi vacuums. I swear I never would. I mean, heck, how hard is it to drag out a vacuum and do the house. Well, that was before sheddy beagle dog. LOL. I used to vacuum twice a week, and under the beds a such twice a year.

Now I have a little minion vacuum the bedrooms and baths in the morning and the rest of the house at night. (I still use the big dyson once a week.) I am SHOCKED at how much this little thing picks up every day. It's NUTS. I think it might report me for abuse to the robot overlords when they take over.
