What did you do in the garden today?

is DS darling spouse? or an acronym personal to you. I've never heard it but ive heard DH for darling husband so it seems logical. pardon me if I'm totally off base lol

I am itching to plant marigolds and basil in the house but I keep putting off getting something to plant them in
Son

my housemate talked me into ordering tomatoes as transplants from her friend that does a ton of different varieties in his green house. so I wont be getting them till April-ish.
We at least waited until February this times. Usually the bug hits in january and half of the plants get stunted because they get too big for their pots before we can transplant outside. 🤷‍♂️

the past couple years I've waited too late because my body doesn't think LETS GO OUTSIDE in 40 degrees normally.. and then it's the heat of summer and I had tomato plants not give a single tomato because of it

Snow everywhere. Cold, but pretty. More snow over the next few days, but not a lot expected at any one time. Really cold temps this weekend are expected.

I want to start seeds, but, I think I’ll wait until next week. I pick up spring chicks next week!!! Yay!! So, that will be a good time to get set up and labels made, notebook updated, etc.

Normally, last Frost occurs by May 8th or a bit earlier. However, last year, a very cold 25F occurred around May 22 last year. So many people lost plants they had planted as usual - even with heavy covers on them as 25F overnight temps are so cold for young plants. We waited to plant, but it was a definite late start to the season last year. I’m hoping that we have a more mild spring and that the last frost is earlier than usual this year. I’d like that!

Wow, that sounds pretty good for a Roma @jerryse. I prefer the indeterminate types. Seems like I get more tomatoes from them. I've already purchased my seed but perhaps I can get some for next year's planting. Same here @Acre4Me. Snow depth keeps going up and I'm spending way too much time shoveling. My new kitchen exhaust fan is being installed right now, the new stove arrives tomorrow morning. I dressed in my painting clothes so I have no excuse to get moving on the living room today. I'm hoping the snow squalls stop so I can get caught up on the renovation work. As for overwintering lavender, sage and other herbs: this is the first time I've had parsley, lavender and sage over winter for the second, hopefully going for the third year. My thyme is doing very well as is the oregano. I bring the rosemary in for the winter as well as my little bay laurel. The latter just hanging in there, but not looking all that great. Still no plans for starting seeds here yet. I'm in zone 5 as well, but too cold to consider seedlings right now. At least the garden is getting a healthy dose of nitrogen.
