What did you do in the garden today?

I've decided I need to start thinking of starting some pepper seeds. I can't remember what my friend gave me for starter pots, nor can I remember where I put them. :he :lau I need to order a seed mat too.

I'm only starting peppers inside. I will direct sow the green beans & squash & I have the tunnels for lettuce so I should be good with that.

Good afternoon gardeners. Nothing much in the garden today. I have everything ready to soak seeds before planting and will get those going tonight. Took a few pics of the ducks. The weather is cool and windy, but by the start of next week we’ll be close to 80 already. My mom has a friend in TX who is going to stay in a hotel because they have heat and a generator. One that takes dogs of course. They’re in an apartment and have been without heat for two days now and it’s 16 degrees wherever they are. Anyway, here’s the ducklings, about 2.5 weeks now. They hate me.

I forgot to bring in the seaweed stuff to try, fortunately I can go in the shed and find stuff, yay. I read in a thread about ducklings that you want to take pictures often because they grow so fast that you’ll look back and wish you had baby pics. It’s true, but they’re the second kid right now for sure.

I canned the tomatoes that I was cooking down for the last 2 days and made blackberry jelly. Not sure how happy I am with the blackberry jelly. I got 4.5 cups of juice and was using a pectin free recipe (low sugar as well). The recipe said to cook for 20 minutes after which time it should be approaching the gelling point. Uh, nope. Cooked (and stirred) an additional 20 minutes. Gave up and added some pectin. I can't decide if the jelly tastes a bit scorched or not. I stirred the entire time but it still seemed like it was trying to scorch on the bottom. Plus I only got 2 half pints and 1 quarter pint from 4.5 cups of juice!
I was planning on trying a blackberry/strawberry combo tomorrow but I just realized that I am out of sugar. I thought there was a bag behind the sugar container but it turned out to be a bag of flour.
I did get almost all of the driveway shoveled today. I just have the gravel areas at the top and bottom of the driveway left to do. We are supposed to get more snow tomorrow. I've heard "less than 2 inches" and "3 inches" so I guess we will see what the morning brings.

My hubby gave me a raised bed garden with a greenhouse over it for Christmas. He put it together for me the other day. It is smaller than I thought it would be. I think I am going to use it inside to start my seeds. Now I just need to find what I did with the grow light I had 2 years ago. It is small enough that it will fit inside there. I just need to rig some chains or something so that I can adjust the height of the lamp to be appropriate for the height of the seeds.
