What did you do in the garden today?

Today...I did nothing in the garden, but we brought some extra seeds over to a friend's house and helped them plant a few.

Oh, and funny story, they just this week found out that the chicken who kept "escaping" a neighbors house to forage in their compost was actually homeless. Evidently her people moved in December, left their small flock behind (grrrr!), and she is the lone survivor of two months of "the feral life." So she now lives at their house. She's been laying an egg per day for them, and they are looking into new flock mates for her. 🥳

Kid cleaned the coop yesterday....way too much poop to discuss in polite company. However, it has been relocated to the compost pile.

The 9-day old chicks, cute as they are, have been evicted today. They are in the barn -we will check in the little fluff butts in a few min to see if they are warm enough. But the house sure smells better!

As far as paying other to do what we do not like...we paid for a lawn service for all the years in this one house we had in a suburban neighborhood. We mow the lawn, but we are not into lawn care at all. When we bought the home it had a beautiful green, lush lawn. We figured it was easier to keep that going and to have someone else do that. Plus, the immediate neighbor was meticulous with the lawn and landscaping, and had some impressive hardscapes and plantings, so we figured a lawn service was the best option for us. Here, we mow. We had a landscaper re-do the front bed and plantings, because it’s what everyone sees, and we take care of it on a regular basis but had zero interest in redoing that area ourselves.

Looking around for polite company.

What have I been doing in the garden lately?

Waging war.
