What did you do in the garden today?

I did it! I'm beat tired... But I FINALLY got some work done on the garden today! I planted my fall raspberries, alpine strawberries, some yellow onions, and direct sowed some seeds for broccoli, spinach, arugula, and salad greens. I also fertilized my blueberries, strawberries, and red raspberries. I weeded all my raised beds... And I started seeds indoors for 2 different types of tomatoes and about 5-6 different types of peppers. I'm super late on the seed starting but oh well....

DH and my son tilled the garden area. We still have to put down the compost I've been cooking over the winter and re-till again. I bought cow panels to make a hoop house in the garden area... All of that will have to wait for another day. Going to rain tomorrow so nothing will get done there....

The chickens were quite excited to have so much grass available yesterday. They were able to hang out for nearly an hour before a trio of hawks started circling. We still have a few really cold nights ahead so I'm not removing the plastic sheeting from the chicken run yet. Also, it does help block the March winds. I was able to prune my fruit trees yesterday. I do have a branch I need to saw off but I'm trying to determine the best tool to use so as not to damage the branch it is growing next to. DD and I are off to the antique/ consignment shops today again. There are two closer to Boston that usually have some very nice furniture pieces. I do plan on getting my pepper seeds started today. The week ahead is looking like a pretty busy one so I need to get cracking. No sign of any crocuses (I only have two left from the previous owner) but my lonely hyacinth is pushing through the dirt. I can't wait to see how the new bulbs I planted in the front yard garden do. It might take a bit longer as the ground is still frozen.

I've heard that we should not prune trees when it is a new moon. not sure if that is true. I always prune around full moon when water is low (in roots). they say that if brunches loose water they will not have fruits.

please keep us posted about the trees you pruned.

Checked on the compost, frozen solid & can't even get a pitchfork in it. No signs of anything growing, I usually see the snowbells first. Nothing.

I saw today that I bought bush beans instead of pole beans - guess I'll just throw those starts into the compost as I don't have room for bush beans. So I ordered purple pole beans from Amazon & will start those when they get here. :he

can youat least put those beans in some pot and let them sprout. you can feed chickens with young plants so that will not be a total waste.

Thank you!
It was fun to do and my niece enjoyed helping me paint the red part.
Cute rocks!!

there are “Kindness Rocks” type fb pages. It’s a thing to paint rocks and leave them here or there for people to find. It’s fun to see them posted - but need to label them first. In my general area I’ve found some rocks from “West Central Ohio Rocks” ( I think that’s the fb page), so we painted some and hid them at some parks in our areas. Some got posted on fb - kids love to see that!
