What did you do in the garden today?

Beautiful here today. The other day, I put out my herbs in pots along the patio. Today, I can repot the aloe vera off shoots. I got my Rose of Sharon plant in the mail and have it hardening off on the patio. Will plant that in a few days along with two drift roses and an azalea. Hardening off the vegetable plants I bought the other day- zuccini, and yellow squash. I need to prepare the raised beds. I have the corn and black eye pea (bush) seeds as well as carrot and beets. Just need to locate some cherry tomato plants- if worse comes to worse, will get seeds. I only need two plants, so planting a bunch of tomato seeds seems like waste. I need to get some more hollyhocks. Only 4 came back up this year. Also want to make a small square around my mailbox and plant pink and yellow lantana.

When it rains it pours I suppose. Anyway, sorry to ramble, have a good day all.
I'm sorry for your troubles. :hugs:hugs
& Wide enough the tractor bucket fits!
Beautiful bulbs and I'm so envious of your big space for your compost pile. I'd give a lot to have more land. Still gonna have to win the lottery I guess. First thing I'd do is buy out our "Karen" neighbor and tear down her house. :lau
After they were done pigging out on the scratch, two of the hens cornered some of the littles, and were taking turns pecking them - not too bad as one would peck and give them the evil eye, then after several moments, the other would peck and give them the evil eye...etc until they decided to run for it!
Man it sounds like your big girls have quite the training class going on. Sounds funny unless you're a little I guess. :)
I am officially gardening now! We got all the garlic outside on the raised bed and mulched with straw. I'm going to get the kale planted tomorrow. I'm debated on the brussels sprouts - are they frost hardy?
Like @WthrLady said, frost but not hard freeze hardy. So exciting to get the garden going isn't it?
Corn - peaches and cream
Those are my favorite corn, they generally don't do well here but I'm always tempted, the sight of those dark green growing stalks is so lovely and a nice contrast with anything you plant near them. I love the coast but I miss growing corn.
They just tolerate her. *Sigh.* She's inside watching a Bible movie with the kids right now because she was calling for Penny...who can't answer anymore.😭😭
That is so sad and sweet at the same time. But tolerate is much better than hounding her.
Rosemary gets huge for me here in the ground and aren’t too popular with the fowl so I’m thinking of adding a few to the landscape in the backyard. Plus they smell so good when you brush against them as you pass by. It’s just about my favorite herb to use in the kitchen.
That's a good idea, I might plant some just outside the run myself. That would put it just slightly downhill from the run so the natural fertilizer should encourage them to grow well.

Do you have rust trouble with your hollyhocks? I love them myself but the rust was terrible.

I have a bajillion tomato seedlings up from my first planting, nothing with real leaves yet but it's just a matter of time. Good thing I ordered more fireworks seeds, the leftovers from last year are having a terrible sprout rate. Our eggs are selling regular enough that I don't have to boil and pickle them unless I really want to now, everyone that buys them tell us how awesome they are. One regular customer says her 2 year old won't eat eggs unless they are from us, she knows the difference somehow. I swear the yolks from ours are nearly twice the size of store bought yolks, maybe that's how she can tell?

It's a process the grow out day so time to get busy. Don't work too hard but be sure to get some dirt under your nails.

So we made some repairs to the coop and got Lassie a new little friend...say hello to our un-named Easter Egger! (Taking name ideas!)

They will be staying in the brooder tonight, since the adult hens do NOT approve of the new addition. Lassie accepted her quickly though.

Also watered the seedlings and checked up on the outdoor plants. All seems okay on the botanical front...which is good. Couldn't handle more death today.

Beautiful today!!

3rd session digging through ONE raised bed to rid it if morning glory roots. I’ll have to dig through it a few more times. Those things are terrible. I’ve gathered a lot of roots -a few pounds -over the three sessions.

poor little chickies!! Locked out of the brooder all day- had to deal with big girls all day! Of course, they have a small fenced safe area with food and water so they can escape the big girls. Funny, though, they are only 4 weeks old, so a few are small enough to barely squeeze through the chain link. I thought they would run in one direction, but three ran and tried to squeeze through...but they each got stuck momentarily, legs flailing until they popped through the other side! Silly chicks! After I stopped laughing I got them back inside.

Here are the seeds I have sprouting so far. I still have others that I need to get started.
we had to take the blue eyed puppy to the emergency vet on Friday. The regular vet couldn’t see her until April 17th. She has been throwing up about an hour or so after eating ( for about 2 weeks). She has lost at least 10 pounds. At the emergency clinic they took X-rays and decided that she had some kind of blockage in her stomach. They kept her overnight ( on IV fluids), did 2 more sets of X-rays at 2 different times the next day. 3 different vets looked at the X-rays and all said she had a lot of something in her stomach that wasn’t moving. They did surgery yesterday around 3:00PM. Guess what?
There wasn’t anything in her stomach! 😳
She does have enlarged lymph nodes. He took one and took biopsies from her stomach and her intestines. We did not agree to having them checked because the surgery and everything already cost us $3,000 😳 and the results wouldn’t change what we would do. Bring her home and let her live out her life ( however long that turns out to be).
They want to keep her tonight too. So far she isn’t eating for them ( she is too scared being in unknown surroundings and not having been properly socialized due to Covid).
I hate that we put her through all that for nothing. 😞

I got a nice big bucket of weeds for the chickens. When I went in to give it to them, I forgot to close the run door and they got out! 🤬 It took an hour to get them back inside, but everyone was safe and sound.

@karenerwin, sending positive waves for your puppy. And hugs for you both.
:fl:hugs
