What did you do in the garden today?

And I'd be fully within my rights to shoot the stupid things. It's not their fault their owners are LAZY and don't control them.
This is the 4th time we've been attacked on a walk with our leashed dog since September. And twice before that while walking alone, without the dog. So 6 times!
Ridiculous.

Have you called animal control? We have the same problem with our neighbors. Unfortunately we have no animal control and no leash law here.

No animal control, but I will be notifying the county. I've had enough. These are the same people that almost set our hay field on fire with fireworks.
The kids didn't even say they were sorry, that's who came out to get the dogs. The parents have even come over to say sorry or find out if everyone is ok.
I'm most worried about the 12 year old who walks her new lab dog. If they go after her, there is NO WAY she can stop a fight between three fully grown dogs.
We fall under state code here. Animals must be contained or controlled at all times. On their own property they can free roam, but off property must be under full control. Their underground fence obviously doesn't work for them. And voice command, HA! They can't even catch them without getting out the car, chasing them down, and bribing them with a car ride.

Went out to water the ducks and found some artichokes! The aloe is blooming and there are flowers on one of the tomato plants. Few other things are blooming also.

Sat down to decompress from my fabulous day and the coop alarm went off. I clicked on and HOLY CRAP IT"S HUGE! I was down the stairs rifle in hand before DH even had his recliner upright. I was momma bear out for revenge.
I have never seen a wild mink this large! I used the chicken we were going to have for dinner as bait and we put out 5 rat traps, a squirrel trap, a mink box and the raccoon trap. HOLY HOLY CRAP. I'll get daylight photos so you can see it's gorgeous color and size, but for now all I have is video I can't post on here, but I'll screen shot a photo. It tripped the raccoon trap. IGNORE the PLAY button, it's a screen shot of my security camera.

The alpacas were screaming at it when I went out, and standing at the fence when I got out. I swear they cheered when I dispatched it.

I reset the trap in case anything else wants to swing by tonight.

Wow glad you caught it!

that is big! glad he's no longer able to eat a chicken dinner.

@WthrLady Heck that sucker is big. I'm so glad you got it! So sorry about all your lovely fluffy butts though. It always sucks to lose fluffies.

You reminded of the time I spotted a fox on the security cam and ran after it halfway down the block, at 1AM, waving a broom as though that would do any darn good. I do not recommend that method, but we were in city limits and I couldn't do.... more. Never did see that fox again though. Crazy chicken lady thing must have terrified him.

Definitely file a report concerning your neighbors though... It looks better if something happens, heaven forbid, and they file a complaint afterward. They sound like the sort that wouldn't own their responsibility in the aftermath.

Craptastic morning. Went out this morning to feed the birds and noticed new digging near the door, but it didn't get past the buried hardware cloth. I made note of it and opened the door, screamed the wail of sorrow, dropped everything I was carrying as I saw dead bodies everywhere. I very quickly assessed and went into panic mode looking for my big roo and my favorite Merriweather (both fine). A mink got in, using a small mouse hole in the corner of the run that I MEANT to get to last week. Never again. UGH.
I lost 14 of 27 great birds. 6 of the 14 were on the summer cull list, but the rest weren't. Crap, just crap. All my fault, I feel horrible. But I'm sadly hardened by now, learn and fix and move on. Nothing I can do. All holes have been now found, sealed with wire AND concrete.

Merriweather is living in her spa in the workshop until I have a new mink collar for my coat.
The coop seems so odd without so many familiar little fluff butts in it.
----
I haven't checked on my neighbor with all the free and open living ducks, (he's running a buffet over there)
------
Another neighbor lost 14 too ...... different mink I'm sure.
-------
Another neighbor hit and killed one of their loved and $$$$ rescue farm kittens with the truck on the way to take the kids to school.

Been a rough day up on this hill.
========
Going to paint the greenhouse deck today and maybe transplant a LOT of baby tomatoes.
Yep, sometimes you get the bear- other times, the bear gets you. Sorry for your troubles
