What did you do in the garden today?

We are going to continue to wear masks social distance and use hand sanitizer.
i got orange, pink and purplish colors. A friend gave me a beautiful salmon color too! I put them in pots today and got them situated in the gazebo. I felt pretty good today, noticed my energy and strength is a little less then usual so I worked half day in the garden and then went to the studio to finish a painting I am working on. I’m Iiking how it’s coming along , it’s almost there, just needs a little more work to be done in the foreground. Here it is so far. I love painting Bison. View attachment 2650120
Lovely. I have a neighbor with a herd of bison. They're adorable, but full on wild animals, no matter the fact they're in a fenced in area.

DH had office -co-workers that had visiting family in town and wanted to come see the ranch and surprise family with a alpaca encounter. I was happy to oblige, but it meant re-ordering my whole day. I was going to mow again and make it look extra nice, but promptly threw the belt on the large mower, So I made myself contented in cleaning a whole lot of dirty dusty things. I am now paying for that with my sinus'. BLEH, BUT they had a great time, and that's what's important.

I have the garden ready to plant the beans, so I'll do that tomorrow, and I need to up-pot the tomatoes.I also need to create a form so people can pre-order their veggie plants and I'll deliver after frost on the 21st. I'll have Mother's Day Baskets for sale at the floral open house though.

Thursday is an all day baking marathon for the floral open house on Friday.

How cool to provide an option to all for Mothers Day. I bet you'll do great with quality products and another option for people. Love the baked goods at open house idea. Good Luck.

Wow wish I lived near you!!will you show us pics of your event please?

Oh yeah paying someone to take away garden gold doesn’t seem very cost effective. I make large leaf mold bins. We have alot of oaks and the leaves take a long time to decompose. These bins line up along the road of our 2.5 acres and are a great privacy screen and sound barrier as they turn themselves into gold for the gardens. While they are working I have planted trees and bushes in front of them to take thier places after they are taken down. This process takes a good 4 to 5 years so that give the new plants a good amount of time. I always have bins going and never need to buy soil amendments. I’ll take a picture tomorrow .
We have at least 2 dozen giant oak trees on our property so LOTS of leaves. Last year, DH burned all the dead leaves. This year, I've raked up a lot of them and used them in the bottom of raised beds. Still have TONS of leaves that we haven't gotten around to cleaning up. I really want to get an attachment for the mower that will sweep them up, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Can you show a picture of your leaf mold bins? I'm curious what they look like and how you made them....

Sure. My friend down the road does the floral side and has a shop. She has others bring in their specialties to sell. She figures the more rounded her stock, the more people she'll draw. We do this every Friday from Mother's Day to the second Friday in October.

I love my lawn sweeper. I use it to collect lawn clippings for the garden. (no trees to speak of really.) The orchard leaves simply blow away.
