What did you do in the garden today?

Anybody with experience planting 3 sisters, are my beans getting ahead of my corn or can I expect the corn to grow faster than the beans? They are about the same size now, partly because I had to replant some of the corn after my drake got in there.

I always thought you were supposed to wait to plant your beans until your corn was around 9-12 inches tall? Otherwise your beans can outgrow the corn and you'll still have to end up staking them.

Morning Gardeners have some tomatilla bigger stronger may try to get them in the ground .. We have medium grade hoses to the garden and coops .. Strong from front hose bib to the outside the garden..

Son put a splitter three way like aquarium tubing but heavy.
Those have hoses to coops or garden.. Also one long one to the little coop or berry patch

Might be a bad pack of seeds. I think I bought them last year.

Onion seeds aren't viable for very long... 1 year is what I've read.

I have Egyptian walking onions for that. Come back every yr with no maintenance what's so ever, and replant and spread on their own. Plus tons of small pickling size onions from the top and can use the bottom onions also if you want.

I have EWO too! This is my third year with them. I dig up a few bulbs to thin them out. The greens are nice any time; just snip here and there. Right now, the older plants are sending up their top onion sprouts.

My only complaint is the bulbs are small, like large green onions, not "onion onions." DH thinks they're a little mild, but he likes strong onions.

Last fall, I planted Potato Onions, which are similar, I think, but the bulb grows larger. We'll see in about a year.

Either way, I am pretty much set for onions year round, as long as I get a decent crop of the Stuttgarter and Red Baron that I plant from sets.

I planted the butternut. Yay! 4 hills, 5 seeds per. I also found a few earthworms while I was digging. This is in an area that I have almost never found worms in before. The heavy mulch of oak leaves is working...

This is my fear now... I waited to plant beans until corn sprouted. Right after planting beans that drake of ours got into the corn sprouts. I replanted some of the corn and protected the area form the drake. I was not expecting the beans to sprout so quickly, and the corn being damaged by the drake didn't help. I may need to pop a few canes in the mounds. I'll see what things look like over the next few days. But being out of down next week, I better make a decision before the weekend is over. I don't have any poles or canes laying around right now either, so I'll need to spend more money on the garden if I decide they're needed.

I went down to City Hall to complain about the storm drain. The guy in charge isn't there....go figure. They gave me his cell number. Bad idea! ha ha.... I've left 2 messages so far today. I can become a regular pest if they keep ignoring me. I will give him a week to call me back. If he doesn't, I'll get an attorney to send a letter.

I REALLY need to stop looking at seed sites. I just ordered more seeds....this time for flowers and some Richmond Green Apples (cukes). Has anyone ever grown these types of cukes before?

Since we are talking about butternut. I have that in my 3 sisters along with pumpkins. But I was tempted to get honeynut this year and didn't since I already purchased butternut seeds. Has anybody grown honeynut? I hear it's much sweeter and richer in flavor than butternut, but smaller. It's supposed to be delicious though.
