What did you do in the garden today?

I came across this pic, it’s from 09/2014 when we planned the mesquite trees in front

Same here. I go out early in the morning between 7 - 9 am and then again between 5 - 9 pm. Too hot throughout most of the summer to do it any differently but if we get a nice day below 80 degrees I will spend the entire day outdoors if possible. 😂
Same here too. During the summer, I can get a couple hours in before 10. After that, depends on how hot it gets. If it is in the 90’s, I can do a little in shaded areas. If triple digits, no work outside after 10- and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Yesterday I went ahead and harvested most of my broccoli since I am having trouble with worms.
I finally gave up on all brassicas, they always have one more worm or slug in them no matter how want times I rinse and wash them. And when I say worm, I mean earthworm. I find them in the middle of my lettuces too. It takes me forever to prep the lettuce for salads.
I thought I had made the deal QUITE clear, but alas, this morning two more tomatoes were on the ground this morning.
This is me and the slugs and snails. There were a couple of my seedling sweet peppers cut off right at the base this morning. I launched a guilty looking slug over the railroad tracks this morning and I can use the Slug-Out in the raised beds but have to be careful if the ladies can reach it. If I did nothing we'd have no whole strawberries at all.

@igorsMistress, those trees are beautiful and really transform the front of your house. How long have they been there? We've been adding trees to the property with the hope of having shady places for salal, Oregon grape, foxglove, and a bunch of the other natives that grow in the edge of the forests

In the last 48 hours we've had about 1.75 inches of rain and we're so grateful. I'm about ready to up pot a bunch of my unused tomatoes so I can transplant them as the garlic, shallots, and assorted greens are finished and out of the garden, then toss most of the rest into the compost bin. And here's a pic of a pretty tiny poppy that sprouted in the gravel in front:

And this is the native Nootka Rose we have in the bluff out back.
Just love it. 20210525_165339.jpg They're really similar to rugosa roses.

I have just finished baking cookies for the shearing team tomorrow.
The chicks house has been all cleaned out and put away and the workshop clean. The tractor moved from the barn into the shop.

Now tomorrow, I just need to pull things out of the way in the barn alley and halter up 6 ticked off animals, then off we go!

Then the weather can do whatever it wants. It's chilly today here for a change. But I have the whole house opened up anyway.

OMG I cannot tolerate the heat, but more-so the heat WITH humidity. I can't.
I came across a parody video on youtube yesterday, menopause rhapsody...hilarious.

Dog is on a new thunderstorm med. Think it might be too strong for her. She's sleepy today. We'll see how it goes the next set of storms. Oh and I think her hips are starting to go. UGH. She tries to get up on the sofa via her little step we made and she cannot support herself and just sit down on her butt like a toddler. She's not in pain though. Sucks getting old.

Thanks Newboots. They’ve been in the ground for almost 7 years. We also have a willow acacia in the side yard that’s the same age but it’s taller. Not as full as the mesquites but not intended to be. Our power company had a residential tree program back in the day and we got the trees for free.
I am seriously considering tearing out the shade garden and planting a tree to provide more shade in the backyard. We shall see.

Today is my birthday. Took the rest of the week off work to get some R&R and I've been busting my butt since I got up at 7 am. 🙄

There's a siding guy in town who let's me go through their scrap pile for free. I pulled out a bunch of vinyl siding that I'm going to use on the coop we built last fall. We never got around to covering the plywood and now it is starting to warp and mold from exposure. Saturday and Sunday are going to be beautiful with a high in the low 70s. I'll go scrub the mold with bleach water while the kids put up the new siding on the coop.

My oldest son is in the Air Force. He got leave this weekend and is coming home tonight to visit with my granddaughter. It is the first time I've gotten to see him since Christmas!
