What did you do in the garden today?

Morning all.
Gulped my coffee down and cleaned out the barn.
The boys are all haltered up and stuck in their stalls waiting for the team.
I'll go out just before they come and rake the ally and set the camera up for a video.
Hopefully we'll get it on youtube today.

More rain overnight. Dry for a couple of days, then rain monday and again next week.

GOOD grief so much water.
Put that water to use by collecting it in rain barrels, if you can.

Just for fun, list what you DON'T buy at the grocery any more. Here's mine:
In late summer, we buy almost nothing except bananas.

Other times of the year: Applesauce and apple butter, anything made with pears, cherries, grapes, like fruit jelly, sauce or jam...Basil, garlic and any growable ingredient of pesto (which I use in many recipes) ...asparagus (fresh, or frozen if an ingredient in some recipes.) Sauerkraut, other fermented or pickled things, like cukes, even zucchini. Frozen ratatouille and tomato-based pasta sauce,

Does meat count? We buy 1/2 pork every year from a local farmer, and last year we bought a sheep from our local high-school FFA. We try to grow as much as we can, support local farmers, and try to avoid buying most things from the Big-Ag exploitive industry.

Rained cats and dogs last night. Guess I don't have to water today, lol. I need to pick up some wood chip type mulch, but haven't got to it yet. Maybe today, but not sure. My dad seems to have a full weekend planned already, which I don't mind much since the toddler needs to be entertained anyway.

Oh! I did pot up my strawberries, lemon thyme, and acquired two blackberry plants and an aloe plant! I've been all over looking for raspberries, but it appears to be too late in the season for local stores. Have one last place to try locally before I move my search online.

I think you are late for raspberries for this year. they don't like heat. be patient, don't waste money. ask me how I know that, lol.

keep us posted about dehydrator.

I remember my grandparents cut apples (small flat pieces) and passed on a thread using needle. they air dried them in a shadow. I want to try the same thing with carrots and zucchini. I hope to find time for it as I am overloaded with things to do and heat does not help.

DH isn't a fan of dehydrated fruit. I like apples but my apple trees won't likely produce for a couple of years still.

I should have quite a few yellow squash this year...

And, of course, jerky! We eat a LOT of jerky. I asked DH to make some.... We've never done it before so it will be a new experience.
