What did you do in the garden today?

I went by the grocery store yesterday and they had a TON of tomato plants on clearance. Each flat was marked down to 25 cents! I picked up 2 flats, each containing 4 plants. They are varieties I've never tried before... I tried to make sure the ones I picked were fast maturing since we are halfway through the summer. I got a "Celebrity" variety and a "Super Fantastic" variety.

Anyone ever grown those before?

Done with the garden! If you see anything wrong then please tell me!

oh my!! I noticed the fence fell!

Extension offices... what the heck are they? Extension of what? And how do I find them near me?

They are tied to the Dept of Agriculture. Ours are run in conjunction with the University of Arkansas - Agriculture Division. They do all kinds of educational outreach like Master Gardeners, Backyard Chickens, soil testing, etc...

Check with your county clerk. They should know where your extension office is located.

That looks like a great idea. Unfortunately, Dear Wife said she was done with canning so we gave away all our canning jars to my cousin. Never thought about cooking cake in a jar. I'll have to look into that idea a bit more.

Do you have to use good canning jars or can you reuse any old grocery jar, like maybe from olives or pickles, etc...
Possibly. They are baked rather than water bath canning. Cant hurt to try.

My neighbor LOVES Celebrity. He grows it every year. The other one, not sure.

Ugly, but tasty I bet!

For your bed of tomatoes, 30 certainly is a lot. Is that a 12ftx4ft? I am growing with sense planting this year and my tomatoes are about 12"-15" apart, but they are heavily pruned to a single stem. You could consider doing some pruning, especially if they are indeterminate.
You are totally correct... 12x4. And I got a little attached to my seedlings! I was going to try the square foot approach but don't think that would have worked. I should try to prune while staking them today.
